  • Movies for an almost three year old

We just joined netflix and I am looking for movies that have lots of music for DD. Would Mary Poppins be too old for her? Would Little Mermaid be too scary? She already has alot of nightmares.
    Mom to three wild women.

I don't think Mary Poppins would be too old at all. Both of my kids love that movie. Both my kids are prone to getting nightmares from scary movies. They also have liked Annie (newer version with Kathy Bates is a little less scary), Finding Nemo (beware shark scene at beginning), Piglet's Big Adventure. Sound of Music is good, if a little on the long side.

One movie I love is The Secret of Roan Inish. Such a great story and a good example of an independent girl.

My DD loves little mermaid, but I don't think she scares easily. I think Mary Poppins may be too old.

My daughter has a DVD by Laurie Berkner, but I don't think it is available on Netflix. It's awesome. Just music videos for kids.

      Cinderella is a good one.

Yes, DD (2) has obsessive compulsive disorder when it comes to Nemo and Toy Story and "Movie Cars".

I thought of a few more.

I agree on Angelina Ballerina but, geez, is she a whiny little mouse.

Jungle Book. The snake can be kind of scary. The music in the original version is so much better than later versions (either re-release or part 2). If you are watching too, it makes it more enjoyable, IMO. I've watched that countless times.

Curious George. I think this was recently released. It's really sweet and not scary for my kids.

                  Bug's Life

                  Toy Story

Charlotte's Web, the animated version that is already out not the new release at the end of month

No kids here but... How about Heidi (the old one with Shirley Temple)? Or any other movie with Shirley Temple for that matter. Some of them are in black and white but some of them are colorized so they should hold a child's attention a bit better.

Cinderella? Beauty and the Beast? The Aristocats? I don't know if Netflix has any of these.....they were just hits with my boys. I would think girls would like them at least as much, but I don't really know. I am also a big fan of anything Little Bear. I just bought a cheap Little Bear compilation dvd the other day and ALL of my boys laughed at me.

What about the Elmo DVDs. (and of course Thomas) I don't know if you can get them through NetFlix because I've never tried but Nikolai does enjoy them. (except for Elmo gets a hair cut which he completely avoids which funny because we were hoping a little desensitization would help the screaming purple sweaty baby during a haircut)

I really, really, really reccomend this one. Not at all scary - good music too. There is even a sing-along video on the DVD.

I pretty much love Pixar anything (Curious George is not Pixar) - but they all seem to have their scary moments.

Yes, we have some of the books, too. "Little Bear" was a series on Nick Jr. when my oldest was a little guy, and that is when I fell in love with it. I *think* the series is still shown on Noggin. Nathan would watch it last year, but he is over it now. I just love the show, and my kids (at the right age) did too. It was so much gentler than most kids' programming. They used a lot of classical music for background music, too, which I also liked.
