Over the holidays we have spent a fair amount in a car.
We recently had a friend visit and we went out to eat. At the restaurant the boys were playing with the silverware and from out of the blue, DS#2 starts singing (in the perfect tune to The Fray's 'How to save a life')
"How to save a fork"....I asked him about it and he said- 'you know, 'How to save a knife...'

We've had a running joke since I was pregnant that the UPS man is DS's real father since he makes frequent deliveries to our house. What can Brown do for you, right? Apparently, DH and I need to watch what we say in front of DS because today when I asked him to wave to the UPS truck that was driving past the park, DS waved and said, "Adios, Dada!"

Matt - send that one to Weird Al and ask for a writing credit for whichever boy said it. Fantastic! and now I'll never be able to listen to that song again dammit!

Erica - even better. That sweet little face saying "Adios Dada"!

            Great avatar!

Cute! There's 8 years between my brother and me. I used to do this to my parents too! Just wait till Evie starts talking and the older ones tell her to "ask mom and dad if we can do X,Y,Z?" Yes, I'm guilty of this!

We've started to plant the seeds in DS's head about the new baby.

Matthew: Mummy, look at the baby sleeping on the telly in his mummys hands

ME: Matthew I've something to tell you, mummy is growing a baby in her tummy and when is big enough like that baby we'll bring him or her home from the hospital

Matthew comes up to me and puts his face to my tummy where his eye would have been at my belly button

Matthew: Mummy, I can't see it!! It's gone!

Everynight during bath time DS has 5 rubber ducks in his bath and we sing the song :

5 little ducks went swimming one day,
over the hills and far away
mummy duck said quack, quack, quack, quack,
only 4 little ducks came swimming back

So we got down to 1 little duck went swimming one day, and usually ds does all the quacks but last night when I said and my mummy duck said....
Ds decided to change the word 'Baby duck, get back here now, where are you hiding, no hiding, i'm not messing now, come back here at once'

                    He had me in stitches!!

Given our illness of the past week, we've had many body-function related discussions.

On the way home from daycare when they called me to come get him, Nikolai said, "Mommy, the poo came out really, really fast." I nearly burst out loud laughing. Instead I said, "well, I bet it did honey."

Today as we were getting ready for school he said, "I had poo at school, and poo at home and poo on the floor and poo in my pants..."

                        He's such a guy. Already.

The kids and I were in Bi-Lo yesterday picking up a few grocery items. My son was calmly pushing my daughter in the shopping cart, but apparently not to her specifications or liking. She looked right at him and said, "Ryan, you're drivin' me nuts!"

I have no idea where she would get a saying like that.

Anna is very interested in the baby breastfeeding and seems to feel a little left out by it all. When I was feeding the baby yesterday, Anna asked if she used to nurse. I told her that she did and asked her if she remembered that. She said, "Yes, but I got orange juice. Baby Evie only gets milk." I am marveling at how competition is hardwired into us.

I know what you mean, Annie! My 3.5DD was so happy that SHE got the Land Before Time dinosaur movie instead of this imaginary girl who really, really wanted to rent it, too.

On a more caring note, DD is "planning" her 4th bday party (ice cream WITH sprinkles in the backyard) and she wants to invite Daddy, Mommy, baby sister, our cat, the grandparents, the neighbor girl who lives next door, and Naida (a 3yo girl from Ghana who we sponsor every month) . . . I thought the last invitee was so cute. She is always asking questions about her - why don't they have a lot of toys? what does she do? what does she eat?, etc.

ok so we're mid potty traing and its going well, 5 in the potty and 3 accidents ( he drinks soooo much!)

My sister was having a clear out of her room today and had a baby born doll from when she was a kid and it had a diaper on. Matthew pick it up, took the diaper off and sat it on the potty and said this in a really adult voice 'now do your wee wee's in the potty, no wetting the floor!' It was the cutest ever, especially as he didn't know anyone was watching!!
