Nothing wrong with the punk rock days, ladies. I had a rattail, spiked hair and a wardrobe that tended toward the darkside, until I totally lost it and fell in to the VERY LOUD NEONS.

      Jenn -- stop scaring us!

I'm really curious to see what phases of style she goes through. As long as they aren't too extreme. And don't involve tattoos, as Annie said!

        No.

I actually was going to post a thread about this myself, Angie. You just beat me to it.

Last week, my daughter asked me,"Mom, does it bother you that I'm goth". I looked a bit surprised...her black shoes are a bit clunky and her black acid-washed jeans not really my taste...but...goth? "You know, mom..punk. I'm a punk rocker, you know."

        OH. OK.:thud:

She sees herself as being really punk/goth...but by that she means that she wears black or ripped jeans and more edgy sweatshirts. Edgy in the sense of...faded looking/stone washed etc.

She owns 2 Abercrombie sweatshirts. They are a recent acquisition and only cost us $10/sweatshirt on sale. Both of them have that inside-out look and are more punky looking.

I worry that she wants to head in the direction of edgy, punk and goth. I sometimes wake up at night imagining her drinking beer in our garage in her black leather pants at 14. :! I know if that happens though that I'll be able to call Luanne and she'll pick me up off of the floor!

Actually, if you really want to head it off, buy her the black eye make-up and hairdye. Nothing is quite as much of a buzz-kill as parental approval.

Well, when she asked me, I did say "You know, it's not the choice that I would make for you, but I'll support you however you want to dress"

I was hoping that would be buzz-killy enough.

This whole goth obsession of hers started before halloween when we saw a scary looking goth person in the car next to us. I said "OMG, how awful...He looks terrible like that" to which Amanda responded "I think he looks cool".

So...I won't fall into THAT trap again. Goth is cool, punk is awesome...hey...let ME dye your hair blue for you. I'll cut the mohawk..whatever you want honey..maybe mom should get a mohawk too.

            Whatever works!

My friend's kid got way into skate punks and wanted a mohawk- so she told him fine but he needed to keep his grades up and complete chores, etc. He dyes it but she only lets him spike it on Fridays. She said she figures the are bigger battles and better that he get good grade and look silly in pictures than fail because he's rebelling against her in other ways.

she's right. I was a punk-rock girl in high school and hung out w/all the bad kids. It's not quite so much fun once Mom is excited to buy the black stuff w/you.
