Organizing Kids Clutter

My 3.5DD has trouble finding things to do by herself. I'm really trying to encourage her in this area (like pointing out to her that her baby sister plays by herself while Mommy is working on something) but it is a struggle. Do you think that fact that her room is very cluttered could be hampering my goal? I get a bit stressed out myself when I walk into her room and there is just bits and pieces everywhere. . .it's the kind of room where things still look messy even after I help her clean.

Anyway, any tips on organizing kids rooms?

we have baskets on a cheep book shelf. i organize the little stuff. i also rotate the toys, and keep things put away in closets....only taking them out when playing at that time, and putting away when done. it has really cut down on the clutter. i find the kids play with stuff more when organized and when there is less.

I agree with Sylvia -- less is more. It is easier for them to find things that way.

Pulling out some toys and putting them up for a bit and then re-introducing as a "new" toy is an idea. But if I did that, I would come across a box of "new" toys a year later.
