I've seen this before. Who even thinks like this? I don't get it. I mean, seriously...who would ask an adopted Chinese girl why she doesn't speak "Chinese" (so many, many things wrong with that...)?

She should respond: "I haven't had time to learn Mandarin. I've been too busy learning to translate Stupid, so that I know how to respond to the ignorant around here."

But I may be sheltered. We live in a neighborhood with a ton of adopted kids and blended (racially, religiously etc.) families. There are a lot of gay couples, a lot of way-way-older-than-average first-time parents, etc. No one would even be curious. But you don't exactly have to live in a neighborhood like this to have common sense.

Yes, people can say the most horrible and insensitive things about adoption. I think one of the worst things we heard was, "why did you not get a white baby?" This was said by an attending doctor and well, my husband is not white anyhow! As if race played a part ever in our motivation to adopt a baby! Argh!

Never listen to people. People are here to say anything If you're doing good people talks if you're doing bad then people also talk so don't listen to these do anything which you love.
