We use malox and vaseline - Dap on some Malox with a washcloth and then top with vaseline. Although lately I've been forgoing the vaseline and we haven't had a problem.
I think that a different recipe was posted by Genevive (spelling?). Can you do a search for her posts?

diaper rash paste? My kids couldn't use the desinex type stuff. My dad said that at the ER they prescribed a diaper rash ointment which you can make yourself- with lanosil (fungal foot cream stuff) and hydrocortisone (1% was fine). I just would squirt those two on, and rub in, and it worked really well for my kids. And it was pretty cheap- we just bought the main ingredients at costco.Peggy
