  • Calling babywearers

I'm looking for a wrap and thinking of going for a Didymos. Just wondering what your oopinions were. I'm currently in the possession of a mircofleece peanut shell which Tara loves, she loves being in the tummy 2 tummy position, and a calin bleu micro fleece wrap, which I had tried from the sling libary here and thought was great but also advised this probably won't last her as she gets heavier, probably until around 6 months (if that she's already a monster 15 lbs at 8 weeks!!).

Also I was wondering if anyone uses the american brand mei tai's such as the baby hawk, I was told the scandinavian ones were the way to go but it may have been a biased opinion as it was a norweign friend i was talking too

I have no experience with wraps (oh, but don't I want to try one though!). I have a Babyhawk, and I really really like it. I think it is very comfortable, and if I am going to be wearing my baby for an extended amount of time, it is one of the first things I grab from my stash.

I wrap. I have an Inka Storch and a Silver Waves Didy that I use most often. Inka is definitely too warm for the summers here (100F)...but she was oh-so-cozy last winter! I'm looking forward to pulling her out again this winter!!

Silver Waves is a more open weave than Inka and therefore feels a bit cooler to me. It still isn't the best for warm climates though. The Vatanai's are pretty popular, but I didn't like the one I had.

From my reading on thebabywearer.com, it seems that most people love their Storches and Didys and that they are the 'workhorse' wraps. I chose Inka first because of the colorway and because some argue the double thread in both warp and weft makes Storches more supportive for heavy toddlers. Though most agree that it's basically only noticeable for long carries (>30m-1h) and for heavy toddlers (>25-30 pounds). Didy has some great colorways and I'm digging my Silver Waves. It has a different feel than Inka though for sure. Inka is smoother...almost buttery....while Silver Waves is grippy. I learned to ruck with Silver Waves and while I haven't tried yet with Inka, I'm sure it will be harder.

If she likes Tummy-to-Tummy hold, you should get a wrap long enough to do a FWCC (front wrap cross carry). It's Daegan's favorite carry too. I can *just* eke one out with a size 4 Didy (3.7m) (I'm ~5'6", ~145 pounds with large nursers). My Inka is 4.7m and I have longish tails in a FWCC....she does a great WPBC (wiggle proof back carry) though!!

You will feel such a difference using a GSW wrap!! They are supportive and comfortable and just envelope mom and baby and it's like a big hug. OK I'm a total nerd!

I don't have much experience with the different MeiTais. I have the homemade one (based on an Ellaroo) that works for the quick trips I use it for....but it's definitely not comfy enough for long carries. We also have an Ergo, but it's a little too rugged-looking for me. Russ uses it though. On thebabywearer.com, there is a forum for meitais as well.

I have a Babyhawk and I love it! I have used it since she was 4 mo (she is 15 months now). It is very supportive and comfy. She is a little busy bee these days and doesn't like to be worn as much, but when she is super tired or teething, it has been a life saver.

I don't have any experience with other mei tei brands. I have a pouch I keep in my diaper bag, and a ring sling I'm trying to get the hang of. I haven't used a wrap, but plan on trying one with out next baby.

wow great advice michele, thanks for all the detail its a great help, because I was wondering if i could get away with a shorter wrap because everyone was saying go for a size 6, but I've a samll frame and even though I'm exclusively breaastfeeding 12 timesa a dat the nursers at a push would be a small C but are more size B

I have just found the babywearer.com, I started posting last week in the western europe section, i need to explore the other sections to it

I think you can do probably all your carries with a size 4 then. It'd be great if you could try one out first....but you can always just get some cheap $1/yd fabric, cut it to 28" wide and 3.7 meters long and see what you can do with it.

              Re: Calling babywearers

Just an update, I borrowed a woven wrap, a girosol, from the AP sling library and it really put a lot of strain on my neck and shoulders, I'm going to meet up with a wrapping expert to see if I"m just tying it wrong, I don't get that with my fleece wrap

On the bright side, now this I'm super excited about, look what I just purchased!!! I got the Amorine one, its very girly

incase people can't log in to TBW.

Beautiful! I imagine you aren't tying the woven correctly if it's causing strain. I've never used a Girasol though, but my Inka is heavenly to wear! I hope they can help you correct it! Sometimes I get the wrap tied too high, and have to pull the crosses on my back down...maybe that would help?

That is so cute! So much cuter than the Ergo.
