  • ARE ALL KIDS STUPID AT 3 1/2 ?!

i am soooooooo angry. I just cleaned the playroom. it took me 3 days to find and organizing all the stuipd toys into their boxes

i went down there just now and the boys had dumped EVERYTHING into a big pile in the middle of the room. :banghead:

They have been terrible, terrible for months now. Where did my cute 3-year-olds go? They seriously bring me to tears about 3 times a week! MAKE IT STOP!

WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE MORE KIDS?!

    WHY AM I STILL YELLING?!

Please someone tell me it gets better, the arguing, the rudeness... Ryan even tried hitting me the other day...

DAMN IT. here come the tears again

    ARRRRRRGGGGGGG

Re: ARE ALL KIDS STUPID AT 3 1/2 ?!

Someone here once posted that they're all great until they hit the half year mark and then all hell breaks loose until they hit the next birthday.

Nikolai is 3.5 now and most of the time he's pretty fun, he has his moments. This morning:

Me: What would you like for breakfast?

        N: Eggs.

        Me: Do you want toast?

        N: Nope, just eggs.

        Me: OK.

        I make said egg.

He walks into the kitchen and throws a fit because now he doesn't want eggs.

I had a meeting w/ the Health Dept AT 8:30- it's 7:30 at this point and I was still in t-shirt and shorts. So, I say fine- "what do you want"

        N: Strawberry cereal (Special K w/ Strawberries)

        Me: Ok, fine.

I pour the cereal. I pour the milk. I hand him the cereal.

N: There's not enough strawberries. I want more strawberries.

Me: Well I'm not fishing through the box for strawberries, how about some fresh strawberries.

I cut up two fresh strawberries.

N: all hysterical after I put the strawberries in his bowl: I don't want fresh strawberries, I want cereal strawberries.

I then took a deep breathe, removed the bowl of cereal and said, "fine. don't eat."

He ate the cereal w/ the fresh strawberries and no complaints after that.

I'm right there with you (and Quinn just turned 5). I would post the picture of Quinn with a mouthfull of Magnetix (taken by his brother) right after we had the conversation about how ALL toys shouldn't be in their mouth but ESPECIALLY Magnetix b/c they can tear a hole in your tummy. But I've deleted the photo b/c it reminds me what a bad mom I am.

They no longer have the Magnetix.

When I saw the picture I had 2 thoughts:

          1. WHAT THE HELL?? We JUST talked about this!

          2. Great! He's the kid I'm going to find pictures of holding a can of beer when he's 16. He's not smart enough to not let his picture be taken when he's misbehaving.

Laura and Luanne are right. Just brace yourself for 4.

Shortly after 3.5 James became a monster. Freak out king. He is one month past his fourth birthday and it is betterish. He is constantally testing limits in increasingly sophisticated ways. The trade off is the positive ways he uses his blosoming clever mind...he just hasn't decided if he will use it for good or evil. Hang in there. I'm told this will pass.

Jenn...that could have been my house any morning of the week. Our major fight is usually about what he is allowed to bring to school. I gave up this morning and let him take the spiderman costume.

Re: ARE ALL KIDS STUPID AT 3 1/2 ?!

I had no idea what people were talking about when they complained about threes. I had a tough time with the the first half of two -- and then we hit 3.5 with my second daughter. Often said and worth repeating, it's a good thing she is so cute. I was talking to a friend about this the other day and she thought the threes were the toughest with her kids -- emotional hurricanes was her phrase.

Yup. I'm thinking it gets better. And don't anyone dare tell me different!

Thanks everyone. After I read SnowWhite's response I burst out sobbing; another year and a half...and it might get worse?! But now that I have more control over myself I'm back...

Ladybug, go ahead and sign me up for the Mommy Protection Program. Does that come as an installment plan or is it the final act? Either way...

DC Jenn; Why is it so comforting to know that others are going through the same hell?!

Thanks everyone, I feel better. A little.

Jenn; I don't know if it's better or worse to have two boys. Do they egg each other on, or do the opposite and police each other? DH says that one day Ryan is going to get pulled over for speeding and Kyle will be the one to blurt out, "...And the drugs are in the trunk!"

I thought I was on easy street now that the twos were behind me. I got sucker-punched by the threes; okay f-ing fours, bring it on. I'm ready for you. Where's a boxing icon?!

Re: ARE ALL KIDS STUPID AT 3 1/2 ?!

Just jumping in here with commiseration and a little story to make you feel like you have some company.

My darling, sweet, perfect angel of a three year old displayed absolutely angelic behavior for the first four hours of Cade's fall school party. When I told her it was time to leave, she screamed "NO" and threw a tantrum. I picked her up in the football hold, to which she responded by biting me in the thigh and DRAWING blood, in front of 150 people. I struggled to get her in the car and put her in her carseat. I finally gave up and let her have her fit on van floor while everyone else could hear her screams. I honestly was afraid to pick her up for fear of hurting her.

When she was done I scooped her up, put her in her seat and drove off. I felt like the biggest loser parent on the face of the planet. I would have been *oozing* judgment in this situation before kids or even with my first born. I have met my match.

She's lost almost every toy in her room. My seven year old said, "Mom, I don't think that she cares".

No where is that mommy protection program?

I don't know, but it does help. and Kelly, I think you demonstrated amazing restraint. Bites HURT!

                          3 words: SIGN ME UP!!!!

My 3 year old is also being incredibly difficult lately and I feel I'm out of options. I don't know what else to take away from her. It doesn't seem to faze her. I feel like I'm negotiating with a terrorist! I don't know how much worse the f-ing 4's can be! But don't quote me because I'm sure I'll be here next year ranting about some new form of torture she's come up with. :banghead:

Well believe me, the fantasy of dumping the cereal on top of his head did occur. and I was trying to be quiet because my beloved spouse was still asleep. (not after THAT scenario though)
