"mommy, see...look...when i itch my head, the cooties fall out"

me: "where did you hear/see that?"

ds, no response. when i dropped him off this morning, his teachers told me that there isnt anyone currently infected with lice...but it has happened in the past. ew. my head itches just thinking about it.

i remember having it in 5th grade. what a friggen nightmare!!

    Re: head lice

Maybe just dry scalp from the change in seasons?

Head lice are a bitch. I remember when my brother got them. My stoner (read long haired) uncle was living w/ us at the time. That news certainly sobered him up for a few minutes.

There was quite the outbreak at the beginning of the school year at DD's school. I'm so glad she didn't get it. It is just a PITA to get rid of.

I'd go with Jenn's dry scalp idea. In case he does get it, there is a treatment with Cetaphil that is less toxic than the drugstore stuff (just google lice and Cetaphil and you should find it).

        Re: head lice

We had multiple outbreaks here last year. In the school that is.....not in our house. We dodged that bullet. I hear that the newer treatments are easier and better. I've also heard that the lice prefer cleaner hair without products, so that gives me an excuse to gel up my son's do and put goop on my daughter -- and skip the hair washing every day. Luckily, we are a family with dry skin, so daily washing isn't good anyway.

        Good luck avoiding the buggies!!

That's one of my worst fears!!!!

My dd1 has the thickest hair I've ever seen, and it's kinky curly. I told her if she ever gets lice, I'm cutting the hair short. Just talking about lice makes my head itch.

            Re: head lice

We had it when the girls were little, all of us got it. It was horrible, this is when perms were big and my hair was shoulder length and curly!!! I think I did just date myself.

                Re: head lice

My mom used to give us perms ALL the time! We had head lice in our house a few times too, I HATED having to sit there while she put the lice stuff on our head and then combed through it with that tiny comb.
