  • my back is killing me

My sweet little 5 month old is already 20 pounds! He is pretty mellow for the most part but I still need to pick him up and carry him around most of the time. Anyway, my back is a wreck. I have the bjorn and a hot sling but those are not cutting it. Which carrier do you guys recommend for my heavy guy?

And by the way, last night I asked for DH to give me a massage a he gave me a half ass 5 minute one while watching TV and reading the studentdoc forums. When I asked him to keep going I was met with the "i don't have time I have to work a 30 hour icu call tommorow". What an ass..

Look for a babywearing group in your area if you can (I'm pretty sure there's one in the DC area at least), they will let you try out carriers before you invest...you can also look at http://www.thebabywearer.com for more info.

I'd recommend a soft structured carrier (Ergo or bECO) or a woven wrap (Storchenwiege, Didymos, etc). The SSCs are easier to learn and generally more daddy-friendly. Wraps are more versatile but take a little longer to become proficient at.

I have nothing for you, but I just have to laugh because my little guy did not break 20 pounds until he was well over a year old. He's now 5 and just cracked 40. As in 40.4 last week.

Ditto on the Ergo, you can wear it on the back and hip for when you want to switch around the weight. I find them comfy and DH has used it as well with DD. It takes a few trys to figure out how to get them on your back but once you get it, you just throw them on your hip and shimmie them on your back - wala baby and mama are happy I'm sure you could get one used on ebay to help w/cost.

Thanks guys. One of the moms in my new mommy group offered to let me borrow her ergo for the week. Hopefully it will help out!

Hope it works for you!!! Our Ergo is daddy's carrier. Russ even wears him mowing the lawn!

I totally agree with what michele has said. I don't think I could have carried dd past 6 weeks old in a bjorn and this time round I didn't try as ds broke my back in it! I love the mei tai.

              Another option is this:
              http://www.mamakanga.com/babycarriers_1 ... rriers.htm

              or
              http://www.angelpack.com/
I've heard great reviews about them. you have the advantages of the mei tai but clips instead of all the tying.
