  • Carbon Monoxide Detector

Ok so we have a plug in carbon monoxide detector that is plugged in in the hallway between our room and Adele's room. The problem? In the last two days Adele has become enamored with it, scoots over to it and tries to unplug it. Just now she pulled it off of the wall which left two outlets exposed for her to stick her fingers in.

Anyone have a toddler proof solution?

They make outlet covers that slide and twist so that you can plug things in.

Yep, we got those but then the prongs on the detector weren't long enough. But they work great on the rest of our outlets.

          Anything else?

The only other thing I could think of is to "hide" it behind a piece of furniture or something where she can't get at it.

              I'm brainstorming here...

Could you try a different brand that maybe jutted out less and had a closer profile?

Extension cord/mount it higher and out of reach

Some kind of wireless outlet - I don't know if this would work, but something like this...

              http://www.target.com/Wireless-Indoor-O ... let&page=1

I can't seem to find exactly what I want for this...

                Re: Carbon Monoxide Detector

I appreciate the thoughts, we're trying to brainstorm another location for it. We could put it in our room behind our dresser or in her room behind her crib. Our rooms are right across the hall from each other so we'd hear it in either place but do you think putting it behind a heavy piece of furniture would affect how it worked?

                  Re: Carbon Monoxide Detector

I think behind the crib would be okay, b/c it's not a solid (like a dresser down to the floor) would be. I don't think I'd put one behind a couch or something heavy like that - but a crib would be okay.

Oy vey! The things I've forgotten about having to deal with .....

                    Cheri,
The paranoid husband's voice is inside my head thinking, "I hope they have one downstairs by the furnace." If you don't, move that one downstairs, outside your furnace room, and try to find one with longer prongs. I'd be shocked if you wouldn't hear it from downstairs to upstairs - ours are hardwired into this house, but we have an additional one in the basement (because my DH is paranoid), and I can hear it three floors up when we test it.

Thanks Deb! We do have two, one right outside the furnace room is actually protected by a toy box so she can't get to it and this one that we're trying to hide. They're now required in Minnesota as of last week.
