Disposable diaper question

So, Cora's about to move up into size 5 diapers. The size 4s still fit fine, but she's started over-spilling them big time (even a fresh diaper).

I notice that, uh, size 5 is the largest size they have at the grocery store . . . but at 14 months, we're maybe roughly halfway done with diapers? Is that the typical timeline? They slow down in growth and are in size 5s much much longer than all the other sizes? Is my kid some kind of crazy pee machine?

I think that is typical. I used diaper overflow as an cue to move up a size if there hadn't been a problem before. I can't remember exactly when -- 18 months? -- but around this age is when they start growing up more than out. I guess the next size up would be pull-ups but how pull-ups affect potty training and whether you want to use them is its own subject. I bet you'll be fine with that size for a while to come.

DS#1 just turned 3yo and has been in size 5s for a while, I think they make size 6s too...

I saw size 6 Pampers at Target awhile ago. DS was in size 4s from about his first birthday till he was potty trained at three.

You know, after I wrote this I did find the 6s at our regular grocery store--they're just not in the big-box bulk size, only the smaller packages. Hopefully the 5s will hold her for a good long while here. She's not too big for the 4s, but her bladder is. Leaky-leaky. My other last resort might be to switch to premiums, but I hope not, because if I can get the generics on sale they're way cheaper. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the responses, everyone!

Do you have a Costco? I'm pretty sure that their brand is the same as Huggies Supremes - and they work great. I have my 35 pound 3 year old in the size 4s overnight, and they hold everything in.

I've been using Seventh Generation, and they hold a LOT. If you order them via amazon with the subscribe and save, it's really not a bad deal at all. Just to illustrate - I was at a fountain with a friend and her little girl. The little girl had been playing (falling) in the fountain, and when she reached up to pick me up I was sure I was going to get a squish of wetness -- but did not. Not one bit. Those things are amazing. ..... but they do run small (if you order) so go with the next size up.
