  • Childproofing the bathroom

Ok gang, I need some advice for the bathroom. We have been living with a very short (less then 24") baby gate in the doorway so we could just step over it and Adele was kept out. The problem is that I'm now going to the bathroom a lot more (I know, TMI) I'm tired of walking over it. Our vanity is already baby proof and we have doors on our shower which are too heavy for her to open so my issue is the toilet. Does anyone have a toilet lock they recommend? Or other options? I took the gate off this morning, she was in there for about 2 minutes and I had to remove the toilet paper from the holder before she unrolled it and she flushed the toilet.

    Any ideas? Help!

No advice...I just thought of that scene from Baby Mama when Amy Poehler couldn't get the seat lid opened and used the sink instead

Good luck! A's growing up so fast!

We never used one. (and neither did my parents which is why the boys were able to dump toilet water all over each other 10 minutes before Thanksgiving Dinner.)

One of those toilet lid things to keep the lid down...and....put the toilet paper out of her reach...it's the only way!

What Kris said. We had a toilet lock that had an arm sort of thing that swings over the lid. I think it was around $10-15. I re-rolled the TP. Often.

We never used one either. The very best way to childproof the bathroom (when you have just one little one at home) is to keep the door locked when it is not in use. Of course, this is providing that your door is easily unlocked from the outside.

Unfortunately we have some moisture issues in this bathroom so keeping the door closed isn't an option hence the gate, it really needs to completely dry every day after showers. I'll look for a toilet lock.

We use this model of a hands free pressure mounted swing gate!
                It works great!

                  We have this toilet lock

which is nice because it swings shut automatically when you close the lid.

Oh, and we had to just put the TP out of reach for a while...

Can you do a pressure-mount swing gate? That way you don't have to step over it but you still have the benefits of a gate. We have this one and it works as advertised (though is apparently out of stock at Amazon).

we never used a lock for the toilet but the TP has only recently made an appearance. DS is now 26 months old. I have found wads of TP on the floor almost on a daily basis when we first put it back on the roller. I think it has finally lost it's luster, hopefully.

The loud flushing noise was enough to keep DS away from the toilet in the early days. I can usually catch him before he gets his hands in the water now. Let's just say we wash our hands often!

The TP thing used to frustrate me until I realized it kept my kids busy for a minute that I could use to do something with my hair, put on some makeup, etc. It does lose its luster and they will be on to bigger and better things.
