  • introducing new foods

I vaguely remember someone posting a link to a great website that had suggestions of what foods to intorduce when for infants.

Of course, with the move, our computer died and I haven't had the opportunity yet to try and resurect the data from the old one. Does anyone remember what it was? All of my parenting books are packed away and I am doing all of my searching on the new computer.

I started Sophie on rice cereal on Thursday and she is gobbling it up! I've decided on starting new foods on Mondays and Thursdays, just to be consistant...

I am thinking apple sauce next (most because it is convienent).

I'm not sure where to find good, legitimate resources for starting before 6 months, sorry. Here's a chart for babies six months and older: http://www.borstvoeding.com/voedseli...ma/engels.html

We started rice cereal followed by applesauce with DD and found a huge problem - constipation. Pears are better - they keep things flowing and counteract the cereal a bit. Just a thought...

Deb - I seem to remember that from DS. Cereal hasn't seem to have any effects on her BM's. Still liquidy and FREQUENT!

I *had* to start DD on cereal. At approx 16 pounds, she is nursing every 1.5-2 hrs. She will wake up from a nap starving and then go right back to sleep. My 4 month old is a far cry from the peanut she started out as. Today, someone guessed her age at 12 months because she is so long! I swear, if I would let her, she would be latched on permanently.

Terrible parenting story related to introducing new foods:

So with DS, I came home one day, to see our (maybe 11 month-old?) sitting in his high chair, doing this weird thing with his tongue. Sort of sticking it in and out of his mouth, flicking it over his teeth, tracing the roof of his mouth. Huge smile on his face, happily but vainly waving his hands. DH was standing, watching, laughing his butt off.

              "What's going on?"

DH burst out, "I stuck some peanut butter on the roof of his mouth. He can't get it off, but he loves the taste. Watch, watch! hhahahhahahahahha!!"

Let's see: I think I can count at least four REALLY bad things about doing that, just off the top of my head. But, to any degree, we found out that DS was not allergic to peanuts and that DH is extremely easily amused, in one incident of "you guys are the WORST parents, ever!"

              I do not recommend this.

Funny thing about peanut butter. . . I was asking the OB about it the other day because my brother has a severe allergy to peanuts. I live on peanut butter. I had read that if you have peanut allergies in your family you should avoid peanut butter during pregnancy, withhold introducing peanuts to the baby until much later, etc. Turns out, they have reversed their position on that and the latest research says that late introduction of nuts/peanuts will not impact allergies.

Yeah, the new research came out around early 2008. Still though, I'm planning to delay the biggies (peanuts, strawberries) until kiddo is old enough to let me know if they're having an anaphylactic reaction. And old enough not to choke on sticky peanut butter -- ah, dads.

We tried pears yesterday and she looked like I had stuck a pickle in her mouth!

Ha! I love that face! Oscar makes that face with everything he tries and on the first taste of food he's had before. Sooo cute and funny!
