  • Top of Stair Gate

We have spindles on both sides -- has anyone found a gate that works well at the top of the stairs? I found installation kids on OneStepAhead http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/...earch#products and it seems that these are supposed to work with any gate, but I have a hard time believing that. Does anyone have experience with them?

    Thanks!

Oddly enough, we just purchased a baby gate for the top of our spindled stairs, too. We went with the EvenFlo model #4481100. It was about $40 and has a walk-through gate. Granted, we got it to keep the dog out of the downstairs, not kids.

But how did you mount it? Those are just pressure mounts, which would never stay secure at the top of my 50" wide staircase on two knoll posts. Did you use one of those install kits like I posted?

My in-laws put a similar gate at the top of their stairs for A. They only had to use one of those install kits on the spindle side, the other is wall but yes they used them and they work great. If you're going to get one of those gates that only opens in the middle though make sure its wide enough, the opening on the one my in-laws have is really narrow and is a PIA to go through IMO. We have one that swings open completely on our stairs and it is MUCH better, it was installed long before those kits came out though so we just have a matching piece of wood mounted on the spindle side. If you'd like I can take a picture of it and send it to you.
