I think I'm missing something. Are the covers sized? Wouldn't it be more expensive then one sized if I have to buy new covers at 4 sizes?? How many covers do you need?

Covers may be one size fits all (adjustable with a variety of snaps) or they can be sized. My sister has these one size covers and loves them. I wasn't willing to spring for the expensive covers, especially as I had picked up a variety on craigslist. I use these and they are great for S who is long waisted. I had the newborn and smalls for S and she is still in the mediums at almost 11 months and approx 21 pounds.

I don't think I ever had more than 1 blow out with these and the few leaks we have had were because the diaper wasn't tucked completely into the cover. It isn't a fancy cover, but it works great for us.

ETA: as for the number of covers, I had about 6 in the newborn and smalls (a variety of brands) and have 5 mediums. As for larges, I will probably only order 3 because I reuse them all day long. She gets a new cover in the morning and it doesn't get changed unless there is BM on it until the next morning. I do laundry every 2-3 days and have exactly 22 prefolds. I have also been using cloth wipes because S's skin is so sensitive.

          Re: Diapers ??

I dry my BGs almost every day in the dryer. Sometimes even on high heat. I haven't had any problems with the PUL but my Velcro on some is starting to go. My mom replaced all the elastic in the legs.

I have Green Acre Designs diapers for Daegan. Some of the diapers tore at the snaps.

I'm sorry your BGs didn't make it.

I replaced the elastic in my BG (v.2) but it was a complete waste because they may as well be tissue paper for how well they keep in the pees. I can't even bring myself to donate them to charity. I do think the v.3 have better longevity. My v.1 (the nylon instead of PUL) are a complete joke, I may already have thrown them out, I'm not sure. I did hear you can Nikwax the nylon for new life though.

Sometimes it's actually a problem of the laminate needing to be re-sealed to the fabric, and a run through a hot dryer can be the solution!

Thanks guys, I think we've decided to use the BGs with A because I can take the leaking ones out and still have enough for her. Then we'll order some pre-folds and covers for R. Thanks again.

Cheri - the other positive to the prefolds and covers is that I have never had to strip them. No build up, no stink. And I use an ointment at every change because S's skin is so sensitive.

With the leaky ones...try a hot-dry cycle to see if you can re-seal the PUL. It might work, it might not, but if it does you'll have a few more diapers. I run mine about 25 minutes on HIGH heat every month or two. (More often if I need diapers *now*. )

Thanks, Cheri! I took your advice and inspected my diapers. Four are coming apart every so slightly at the leg elastic part. I called and am sending them in to see if I can get them exchanged, even though they'll probably be ok for a few more washes.

                    We'll see...

We are only a few months into the BGs...but I'm happy so far. I have had the elastic go in one pair...but I don't sew, I've been planning on trying to send them back in. My big issue is stinkyness. DS2 is wearing them and they just have a general poo smell now. I guess sunning would work, but we're not really known for sun in Seattle, especially in December.

Prefolds and covers are starting to sound way less fussy, but I'm kind of overwhelmed by where to even begin.

I would love to talk diapers all day, I feel like no matter how much I learn, there is still more!
