Quick Question about the Carseat

I've noticed that BabyK's head rolls onto his chest when he's in the carseat. Do we need one of those snuggler/head support things? Is he safe in the carseat if his head is rolling around? I'm worried that he'll be paralized or will suffocate if we are in an accident.

With our first two we had one of those things. With our youngest, we just rolled up a couple of receiving blankets and used them to support his bobble head.

It sounds to me like the angle isn't right. The head support inserts would only help with side roll. I think the correct car seat angle should be 45 degree (http://www.carseatsite.com/reclineangle.htm), but you can always have your car seat installation checked by a pro at the National Highway Traffic Safety administration: http://www.nhtsa.gov/cps/cpsfitting/index.cfm

I agree -- I think that is the best way to know that your little peanut is safe in his seat.

The fire station installed the carseat so I think the angle is correct. It's more the bobble head thing that v-girl referenced. Do we need one of those snuggie things? Or is that just another gimick to sell to anxious new parents?

I remember worrying about this with my first. The bobble head stage passes pretty quickly. Soon, he'll have a bit more muscle in there to hold his head still. We didn't drive around much at this phase but I wouldn't worry about it. He'll be fine!

Annabelle is 7 weeks old and her head is all over the place. I have the head support thing but never took it out of the package. I'm getting it out this week and putting it in... i too am worried. she doesn't seem all that comfortable with her head falling over.

He is so little it will take some time for his neck muscles to strengthen, until then he's fine. As long as the angle on the seat is correct I wouldn't worry about it. R is just now 7 weeks and starting to consistently hold his head up in his seat, and he's over 9 pounds. So BabyK may be floppy for a while.

Our carseat came with an extra insert for use during this wobbly phase. Otherwise I probably would have bought one.

I remember when we bought our carseat we asked about this and they told us to just use a rolled up receiving blanket and not spend the money on a special head support. Turns out DS had such a big noggin that it wasn't a issue, but that is my 2 cents.

I hate this car seat (almost as much as dd does), because it's so f-ing heavy and cumbersome. One thing I do feel though, is that she's safe. She's had a tiny head from the get-go, so I'm happy for the extra built-in support.
