Carseats - very confused

I have another stupid question. If I decide to get a car seat from ebay or Craigslist, how old is too old? The reviews for new ones say that the older models are more convenient, but I'm not sure how far back is safe. There haven't been any recalls since 2002.

There are expiration dates on the seats themselves, I believe. Apparently, the integrity of the plastic can break down. We took ours in for a seat inspection, and I recall seeing a label on ours. For me, the last 4-5 weeks of my pregnancy were all a blur, so take that with a grain of salt.

Yes to both questions. Good prices (diapers.com is also on ebates, 1%, but hey - it's not nothin'), and let MIL buy them. Why not?

I just bought the Britax Marathon on diapers.com and used bing.com to get 10% back. It will end up being almost half the regular price.

Oh nevermind - just saw your MIL will be buying it - if she's like my MIL she won't be able to figure out how to use ebates or bing!

We can get it ourselves and she'll just give us a check. I was going to go through the Amex site to get triple points on our card. Was just making sure that it's a good deal and I'm not jumping on it too early.
