  • Swaddling

So we never swaddled Adele, she just didn't like it and honestly didn't need it - she was always a good sleeper.

As I think you know R has reflux and has been sleeping in his car seat. A few nights ago we tried the bassinet elevated to an angle and he was up a lot, the problem was that he was sliding down and to his right and then when he was stretching he'd hit the sides and start crying. So last night we decided to try the crib. We bought a wedge to give him a little bit of an angle, the other issue is that the crib is in Adele's room. She did great, each time he woke up and I had to go in there she'd look up, I'd say "mommy has to feed Robert go back to sleep" and she would. After getting up with him several times and having a hard time getting him to go back down I gave up and put him back in his car seat.

I e-mailed the ped this morning and she suggested swaddling him. He fell asleep at 7:35 so I put him in the crib, on the wedge, swaddled and he's still asleep and its 9:39pm. If this fixes it I'll be thrilled and feel stupid at the same time. We'll see...

My sister started swaddling about a month or so after my newphew was born and it made all the difference in the world as far as him staying asleep!

Let us know how it goes!

1 question - do you swaddle at nap too?

4 of 5 were swaddlers. I did the same for naps and night--- so yes, swaddle for naps.

I hope it continues to help him (and mommy).

My sister did. Any time she wanted him to sleep... she swaddled.

This is the first baby we have swaddled and I am a true believer. It took awhile for both of us to get the hang of it, but he is my only baby to put himself to sleep in the crib. At seven months, I do a modified swaddle from the waist down and still wedge him against the crib. He likes that contained feeling.

Of course, my kids never, ever sleep through the night until they are weaned, so I can't help with any of the sleepless night advice. Quinn decided to party from 4 to 6 last night.

I will so join you in preaching about the effects of swaddling!

Ok gang - so now we have to figure out how to wean him of the swaddle. He rolled over twice last night to his stomach and then of course woke up because he was pissed and stuck. We had his 4 month appointment this morning and the ped recommended going to a sleep sack and maybe he wanted to sleep on his stomach but after two failed nap attempts he is now napping swaddled.

                              Any suggestions?
