  • Nursing Strike

Help! I'm losing my mind here. N is 1 week shy of 4 months and I am not sure if she's teething or whether she has a little cold (runny nose, glassy eyes). Anyway, she is fussy and today she has been totally refusing to breastfeed. This coming from a very eager breastfed baby who has NEVER refused to eat. She just SCREAMS at the breast. SCREAMS!! Thankfully, I have pumped and she has taken from the bottle so at least I know she's eating. I am guessing her nursing strike has something to do with feeling crummy (teething vs. cold) but I hope she comes to her senses soon. I really hate pumping more than I need to for work and I really don't think I am able to pump as much as she takes from the source. I have tried giving her some tylenol and then nurse, but no luck.

Anyone experience a nursing strike? How long did it last?

Cassy, I have been considering this. I know breastfed babies don't usually get ear infections, but she has had runny noses before and not acted like this. Now, if I can only find DH's otoscope... If she's still acting like this in the morning, I guess I'll bring her to the MD's. The most disturbing thing is that as soon as she gets ready to latch on (she won't even latch) she acts like she's so mad and gets all angry and red-faced...then the gawd awful screaming starts. This sucks.

My first thought is also ear infection. I hope she feels beter and starts nursing soon.

BF babes can get ear infections. My sister's kids all had them while nursing. It sucked. I hope things get better for both of you soon.
