  • How long to use Simethicone

Dd is 7 1/2 month old, and we're going to start weaning her off of her prevacid meds. Her pediatrician said 7.5 months, but she does still spit up quite a lot and throw up occasionally. It's one or the other at every feeding.

I don't think I'll wean her off the Simethicone quite yet (just one variable at a time!), but would eventually like to... When I skipped using Simethicone a few months ago by accident, it was awful. She was burping non-stop and visibly uncomfortable.

I think things have calmed down a bit, and her tummy isn't as sensitive anymore. If you used it in your baby's formula or breastmilk, when did you start weaning your baby off of it?
    TIA.

How often are you using the simethicone? It's the active ingredient in Gas-x and Mylicon. I would think if she's able to burp well during her feedings, you'd be able to stop it. It's not supposed to be systemically absorbed so I can't think of big reasons not to use it long term. I know she had trouble with bottles before, so I hate to bring this up, but could it b the flow of the milk? If it's too fast she might be gulping too much air as she feeds or if it's too slow she might be sucking in extra air as she tries to get more milk. Has she had problems with lactose before? Some lactose intolerant people just get really bad gas and not diarrhea etc.
