Chipped tooth

I chipped a tooth when I was a toddler. It didn't fall out but the tooth "died" and turned brown.

My youngest brother knocked out his front tooth when he was almost three. It was the same weekend that he cut his own hair. And a week before our grandparents were visiting. Needless to say, my mother was hysterical. I don't recall any trouble with his adult teeth but it affected his speech and he developed a lisp. That said, he may have developed a lisp anyway but I suspect that missing a front tooth had something to do with it.

Kirsty - how did it go today?

It was frustrating. Our dentist only deals with routine check ups and such for kids his age. So she referred us to a pediatric specialist who can't see him until Thursday. Gah!!
Burns are healing nicely though! I came out of that appointment feeling a little better. But I will have to be a lot more vigilant with sunscreen this summer than I usually am, to reduce the risk of scarring.

I had such a stressful day yesterday. There was much confusion over whether the type of referral that we got for the pediatric dentist was adequate for the insurance company. I was told that I had to get a preapproval, which could take up to three weeks, all done by snail mail!! In the meantime, I could see that Jack's tooth had become infected. I tried the endodotist route but our medical insurance does not cover it. I tried just getting an appointment and offered to pay cash but it was going to be $300 just to look in his mouth, and I knew that additional treatment would be needed.
So I spent about 2 hours on the phone yesterday morning talking to different people and after much frustration it turned out that the direct referral from "our" dentist was enough after all!!! Why does this stuff have to be so complicated?
So, long story short, Jack is on antibiotics to treat the abcess. The dentist didn't want to touch anything until that was dealt with. Then next week, we go back and he'll remove however much of J's tooth is damaged (probably all of it). He will not get a crown because apparently it is very hard to do for one tooth. If he lost two then they would do it. So, he'll have a gappy toothed grin for a while. I am just glad he is in good hands finally!

And now I know why people pay the big bucks for PPO insurance!

Geez, as if the stress of a hurt little boy weren't enough! I'm glad he's getting care now though. Hang in there!
