  • Well, I'm an idiot!

So we've been trying to figure out how to get Robert to eat because he has NO interest in baby food and a spoon. So at the store this week I picked up the Baby Mum Mums and he went ape every time you handed him one. So I was sitting there at lunch today trying to figure out what else I could give him that he could hold like that because he doesn't have the pincher grasp yet to pick up puffs or small pieces.

We have a version of these feeders http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=2404768 that were given to us when A was a baby. So I thought, ooh I could use those! Of course what did I put in it? A STRAWBERRY! What was I thinking, I wasn't thinking obviously. He didn't seem to have any immediate reaction to it but when I changed him at 6:30 to get him ready for bed his front and back were all broken out. I feel like an idiot and its now 8:21 and he won't fall asleep.

The good side is then we gave him a banana in one and he ate it, so now we have a way to feed him but I'll be checking the food chart to make sure its something I can give him - duh!

I used the mesh feeder with DD for awhile. I would microwave a piece of apple with a little water to soften it, and then stick it in the frig to cool it down. She also like raw apple in it - I think it was good for teething. Don't beat yourself up about the strawberry - it's an easy mistake to make, that's for sure! How's he doing now?

Also, DD did not warm up much to solid foods until closer to a year - she pretty much went straight to table foods. You could try offering puffed rice cereal, which basically melts in the mouth, to give him practice with the pincer grip. For several months, all DD would eat was rice puffs, cheerios, and pureed pears. It was frustrating to say the least!

He took another banana in one today so I'll have to get some other fruit for him. Thanks for the apple tip, we have some but I couldn't figure out how to make it mushy. I have puffs but he doesn't seem interested in picking them up yet. The rash was gone when he woke up this morning and I talked to another friend of mine that is a doctor and she doesn't think it was the strawberry, she thinks it was probably the heat from being outside yesterday afternoon.

And remember, strawberries are a high histamine food, so even if it is from the strawberry, it does not mean he's allergic!

Ripe peach also works well in the mesh feeder.

So we have now tried apples and peaches - he makes some pretty funny faces with the peaches but seems to like them. Overall he's still not a big fan of any of it, just kind of munches on it now and then.
