  • Another car seat thread

We currently don't have a car seat for Oscar. He's 21 months and we don't have a car. However in a year when we move to new mexico we will need to get one and I'm totally lost on what is what and what I would need. I am probably going to get a used Jetta sedan to drive and Oscar will be almost three. He's pretty average size/weight so I guess he'll continue that way. Do I need a carseat or booster? How long wil the seat last (years/until he's out of a car seat)? Any advice or brands to recommend?

I stick my kiddos in a five-point harness as long as physically possible. There's a reason that race car drivers and pilots use them - they are safer. We have both a Graco Nautilus (which I love, love, love and my kids love, love, love), as well as a Sunshine Radian. Either one will last with you until he's 8 and can be out of both a car seat and booster. You can do five point harness in each until he outgrows those, and then they convert into a booster. Right now (I think) the Nautilus is on sale on Amazon for about $120, which I thought was a good price.

SAVECSSS is a discount code on Amazon running through July 4th that gets you 15% off select car seats. I think if you chose what you're looking for and add it to your cart with the code, it should let you know (and you can cancel the order if it doesn't work).

We just bought A a Graco Nautilus so that we can give her Britax Roundabout to her brother. I bought it for the same reasons as Deb, A is small and will probably be in it for quite a while. If we like it we'll buy another one for R when he outgrows the Roundabout.
