  • car seat on airplane - need rec's

So DH, Zoe (11 months old) and I are traveling to Germany for a wedding in a few weeks and we've purchased a seat for her for the plane. I plan to use a carseat for the flight. Right now we only own one, a maxi cosi infant carrier, and I don't want to take that one. I have been planning to buy a convertible carseat soon anyhow and figured I would get one in time to use for the trip.

Just wondering, if any of you have used your various convertible car seats on flights - can you let me know what you used, how it worked out, how well it fit in the seat/down the aisle, how heavy it was to lug around the airport, etc? We plan to buy one of those little wheely things that converts the car seat into a stroller to get around the airport.

Basically, if any of you have a good, reliable convertible seat that you also think travels really well (or really poorly) let me know! Thanks.

We flew with a Radian 65 but forward facing. It was very easy to use and easy to take through the aisle. There is a thread about flying w infants....actually several that have car seat recommendations. I don't know how to search from my iPad or I'd try to find them for you.

I'll do another search to try and find a thread that covers this. For some reason I'm really ineffective when it comes to searching through prior threads though...

The britax roundabout is good for airplane travel, any of the newer bigger seats would be a ginormous PITA.

That Maxi Cosi infant car seat is a POS, in my opinion. It looks snazzy, and is really cool in the Bugaboo, but that's about it!

Try putting together that impossible puzzle that they call a seat buckle, when your kid is arching her back. We bought her a Britax Marathon at 11 months for our road trip, and are thankful that we did.

We put the Maxi Cosi in my dad's car as a second car seat for when she's with him. It takes no longer than 5 minutes before she's screaming her head off. I think it has to do with the sides being so high and restrictive for head movement. My dd wants to be able to look out and see stuff.

            I didn't answer your question!

I have found that the Britax Marathon actually takes up LESS space than the Maxi Cosi. It sits more upright, actually. Width-wise, it's exactly the same as the MC.
