  • Sick little girl

Sophie is so miserable. She has herpangia (they think) which causes horrible blisters and ulcers in the mouth. The poor thing can hardly eat or drink it is so painful at times and tylenol does not do much for the pain. Motrin helps some, but not enough.

It really sucks because I CANNOT miss work right now. If I were to miss more than half a day, I would wash out of the training and potentially not have a job at all. Thankfully, my mom is watching her, but everytime I call, Sophie is crying in the background.

    Yuckyuckyuck!

Poor little S - I feel so badly for her! And for you as well.

DH just mentioned something about "magic mouthwash" being used to treat herpangia. Being the typical dawkter he didn't supply enough info about it at first, so I probed him for more details about it. He says it is a mouthwash that your pediatrician would need to write you a Rx for - it comes in two forms: one with and one without lidocaine. DH also said the lidocaine might sting, so that is why there are two versions. And that at her young age, she might not be able to use the mouthwash as a true mouthwash (can't swallow it), but that you could paint it on the affected areas. Oh, and he also recommended ice pops and ice cream. I hope she feels better soon!

I actually had that in the spring of 2009. WORST PAIN OF MY LIFE. Worse than my ankle surgery.
I feel so much for you and your sweet baby - I second the mouthwash. You're a good mom Kris, and she'll be okay. It just sucks not to be able to take away the pain when someone you love is suffering.

I am so sorry for poor little S. And I am so sorry for you, it is devastating to be a work when your baby is sick. I wish companies would understand that parents are useless if their kids are sick. Big hugs to all - and thank goodness for your mom.

The NP that we saw at urgent care on Sunday basically said the same thing. She's been living on vanilla ice cream. The NP also recommended a 50/50 mixture of mylanta and benedryl, apparently mylanta/malox is magic.

Yes, that definitely works - DH mentioned something about mylanta/maalox as well. I hope she is feeling some relief with the mylanta/benadryl combo!
