  • Feeding issues again!

Before I call the pediatrician, I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions for formula for toddlers. Dd has been constipated for the last few days, an she's starting to refuse her bottle... Here we go again...

I don't know about forumula but have you tried giving her juice/applesauce/prunes and putting her in a warm bath?

I have been giving her prunes, which always seemed to help. Now that she's older I think she's a bit sick of the constant supply of prunes. . She pushes the purée and juice away! Apples constipate her, and pears do nothing.

I'm all on edge because she's refusing to eat!

The last time she pooped, she had an enormous green golf-ball sized turd and she screamed bloody murder. No one should have to pass anything of that consistency, adult or otherwise!

You might try some diff fruits and def drop anything constipating. I would give milk a break for a day or two. Lots of water, peaches (still works for Zoe) ...

Alison, how does she do with table foods? Would she eat a nutrigrain bar? They work wonders for my kids.

Dd simply doesn't like to eat: she likes tablefoods only if it's what we are eating.

I called dd's doctor today, and she said if she doesn't take a regular bottle by next Monday, then we have to go in. This doesn't include dream feeding (which she has started again at night), and when she's distracted. They've got to be the bottles that she's been given at normal intervals during the day.

The constipation may be caused by the new formula, because it's not sensitive formula. She's lactose sensitive, so we returned to it, and will see if she accepts the bottle over the weekend again.

                Ugh.

Thanks for the tips, guys! The nutrigrain bars are a great idea. Looks like I'll be eating them too!

She hasn't pooped since Tuesday morning! I hear her grunting though.

Eta: I have just made the executive decision to start her up on prevacid again. I know this isn't what the pediatrician instructed--and she wants me to wait until next week to call in again, but I just can't do it... I had flashbacks to Christmas Eve, when everyone at home was telling me not to worry that dd hadn't eaten in 24 hours and that it was just a funky period.

I know that M is younger than Q but we eventually had to go to adding a bit of miralax (1/4 cap) to his sippy because he was so constipated there was blood in his stool. I think part of it stems from the fact that he never liked drinking as much after he went off the boob. Also, like M, Q eats what we eat. We never did purees for long because he had teeth. I think this was a recipe for some serious constipation. Good luck.
