  • Nap question

Dd's nap is going on 3 hours... It started at 9:45 and it is now 12:30. Yesterday she did the same thing--she took a 3-hour nap in the morning, and then didn't go down in the afternoon. I kept her up until 7:30pm and then she crashed for 13 hours overnight.

I'm not liking this schedule. Is this normal for when toddlers switch from 2 to 1 nap? I thought they lost their morning nap, and not the pm one first...

I think it is normal to go from 2 naps to 1 mid-day nap. BabyK is on the 1-nap schedule at daycare now and he's exhausted at the end of the day.

My kids always gave up their afternoon naps first, and then somewhere along the line (maybe 6 months?) switched to afternoon only. I always think it's weird that they've only been up a couple hours and go back to bed, but can make it through the entire afternoon fine when I'm exhausted!

Thanks--yeah, it's surprising that she only made it 1 hour 45 min this morning before taking her nap. Now, she'll be awake for 7 hours straight!

I hear her now. Wish me luck! Dh is on overnight call, so I'll be on my own until she goes down tonight. Eeeeks!

DD gave up her afternoon nap and goes down between 10:30 and 11:30 each morning. This works great for me because she is usually awake when I need to start the afternoon rounds of kid pick-up/drop-off. She sleeps from about 7:30 to 6:00 at night and her naps are anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on the day. Your girl just likes sleep Alison

At that age J was on the go for 12 or 14 hours except maybe a half hour snooze, 45 mins on a good day!!
However, I hear from friends with normal kids that it is the afternoon nap that gets dropped, but the morning one probably will get a bit later over time.
At least you can make plans to get out the house now!!!

I'm spoiled, I know... Dd usually doesn't wake up until 8-8:30 in the morning. Really. In our dance class, we're just getting started, and most of the parents have been up for 5-6 hours by then!

This'll definitely make getting out in the afternoons easier, you're absolutely right! And when dh is around, we can have a really long stretch in the mornings to ourselves.

Those long stretches to yourselves usually lead to more babies...

                    Hahahhahahaha!

Oh man..... I offered her a second nap, and she sat in her crib talking, laughing, and barking like a dog. I went up and got hee after 30 min., and she's with me. Oh man, is this exhausting or what?!

The second nap came back! Thank goodness-- I wasn't ready for it to go. I can't believe how you guys are able to function on so little me/getting-sh*t-done time! That other napping thread scares me!
