Backpack carrier rec?

We've been toting dd around in her Baby Bjorn, because she's still well under the weight limit. It's hilarious-looking, because she's exactly half my height.

She is starting to get heavy, and I think carrying her in a backpack carrier will be easier. Do you have any recs? I'm interested in the Kelty ones, but have no idea which one...

We have the kelty, ergo, bjorn and moby. I loved the moby and bjorn for the first 6-8 months. My husband and E hated the ergo to my dismay. The kelty is great for when we go on hikes, outdoor events ie Boston marathon. I imagine Michelle has some great insight. Try it out if you can first before buying. I think kids who love the bjorn don't always love the ergo because they lose the forward facing position but it's more comfortable for mommy.

If you can find a babywearing group and try the different ones out that'd be best. I've been out of the loop lately anddont know all the brands. I saw a Beco yesterday that can be worn front facing out. I usually move the kid to my back once they get big enough bc it's more comfortable for me. So I don't know much about the front facing out position. Now that I've tried others, the Ergo isn't the most comfy to me anymore. Russ still likes it though. I love my Kanga XT and my sister likes her Kanga J. But it's hard to get one bc she pretty much only does custom orders. Spottydog has another brand of backpack carrier that she really likes. She might chime in. If not PM her.

I do like the option of being able to just prop them up in the carrier on the ground or floor. The REI here has some that I can try out.

We procrastinated over buying a Kelty for ages and tried them on several times at REI. I remember that their website had some good reviews of the different types if you need to choose between them. The other brand that my hiking friends love is Deuter.

We ended up being given a cheaper frame carrier for free (Snugli I think) which DH likes and it is nice to have a place to put essentials - water, diapers etc. But I always preferred to use the Ergo personally.

We have the lowest-end REI frame backpack carrier. DH prefers it for hiking with the kids even though I don't think he uses the waist strap quite as it's intended (he prefers to have the weight on his shoulders even though it starts to get uncomfortable after a few miles). I find it way too cumbersome for everyday use. My soft-structured carrier is a Cinchworm. I just throw 26-pound Natalie on my back and go about my business while she peers over my shoulders! I don't think the gal at Cinchworm is making carriers at the moment but you'll get basically the same features from the popular Beco and Ergo brands. Anything is better for your back than dangling the kid from your midsection as though you were a million months pregnant.

Just wanted to post that we got a Deuter Kid Comfort ii at REI, and it's so awesome! So comfortable, and dd feels like she's on top of the world!
