  • Baby tooth booboo

Sigh. Little DD has had teeth for 2 months and we already have damage. She had a fall today (she fell down the bottom 3 stairs while climbing down and I wasn't behind her) and intruded one of her front teeth. Initially, I thought she had chipped the tooth, but upon closer examination, I don't believe she chipped it I believe it intruded (pushed up) into her gum. The injured tooth is about 1/3 shorter than the other tooth. Anyone have any experience with this? I called the pediatrician and our dentist who basically said, cool cloth to suck on, tylenol and soft food and just wait and watch. I'm feeling really guilty and crappy right now. My son displaced his tooth jumping on his bed when he was two and I still feel waves of guilt when I notice the slight discoloration of it. This sucks. Sniff.

I'm sorry, DS1 lost a tooth prematurely while sledding at recess at his school in Minnesota, which contributed to his current orthodontia/tooth spacing issues.

Honestly, I'm always grateful for the treatable scraps my kids get. To date: three sets of stitches and four broken bones. I feel like you don't get through childhood without a couple of merit badges and I'm grateful that the ones we have incurred have been moderately fixable. We joke that our family isn't only employed by the children's hospital, we're consumers too.

As far as the guilt, DD broke her arm while she was standing right next to me and fell. She was climbing the first rung of a fence and fell forward onto her arm in an awkward position. I honestly felt like calling CPS on myself for not taking better care of her. I still feel awful about it. I think that guilt is another part and parcel of parenting too.

I don't have kids, so I don't have experience handling it, but the same thing happened to me when I was a little one. I chipped a tooth and pushed one up into the gum after a nasty fall. Luckily, they were just baby teeth, so no permanent damage! (I did end up having braces for years in my adolescent years, but it that had nothing to do with my little incident).

Don't beat yourself up about it too much. Kids are pretty child-proof.

Yes, but parents are especially guilt-prone.

        No advice, just *hugs*.

Oh, this is a relief. Of course I have done a major consultation with Dr.Google and I have found mostly unhelpful information. Nice to know it turned out ok you. Still stewing in major mommy guilt, but starting consider moving on...

This happened to my son as well when he was about 18 months. His also came back down on it's own, but the tooth did eventually die. He lost it prematurely just as he turned 6 and we're still waiting for the adult tooth to come in over a year later. (the adult tooth is fine, just not ready yet)

If it's any consolation, all 4 of my kids have chipped teeth!!! I'm just grateful they're baby teeth. Try not to feel guilty, this stuff happens.

This is why we have baby teeth. Childhood accidents are bound to happen.
