Taking recommendations for covers for the car - we want something to put underneath our infant car seat to protect our actual seat. Thanks guys!

Wow, those are fancy! I was going to suggest an old bath towel. Of course, if you saw my car you would not take advice from me on how to keep it clean.

I'm with Tara. When deciding to have kids, we gave up on having "niceties".... I'm sorry, I'm no help. These didn't even cross my mind.

I had a co-worker once who took an old flat sheet and cut slits in it for the seat belt buckles and basically slip covered his entire back seat. I dunno - I vacuum out the crumbs and deal with the rest.

Um, I just don't give my toddler snacks or drinks in the car.

My kid ate half a Chick-fil-A biscuit out of his carseat a couple of weeks ago. It was only a day old. Garrett was slightly grossed out. LMAO No seat covers in my car.

I'm using bath towels now, but I don't think it's considered "safe" bc it can interfere with a tight install. The Wet Okole ones for my Mazda had the appropriate cut outs for all the side airbags. But yeah, they are a little spendy.

We were told in our carseat class that you should not put anything between your car seat and your carseat. We ignored that with our first one and put the seat protectors that you can buy under her seat ( like this one: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=3695514 )- we both have leather seats and thought it would protect the seats. After we had #2 I took the car to a car seat clinic and they really encouraged me to take those out. So I did, you know what? There was no damage to my leather seat then and 15 months later there still isn't any damage to my seats from food, drinks, etc. or the carseats themselves.

I was told the only thing you should ever put between your carseat and the seat is a swim noodle if you need it to get the proper angle.

This is one of the many reasons we always try to get cars with leather seats.

I have a "friend" who just registered for a car seat cover: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=2341364

Along with a wipe warmer with light and a Itzbeen baby care timer :snicker:

Should I tell her tomorrow that she shouldn't buy one or control my inner snarkiness and let her learn?

I have a good friend who uses that baby timer. Funniest thing ever.

Does it talk to you and say "time to change the baby's diaper"? LOL!! I know you put in the times, but I don't much else about it. The whole timer thing cracks me up because my "friend" and her husband (who is supposedly my DH's friend) are completely clueless about children. She was saying "well I won't be able to make Christmas cookies next year" and I was like "yes, you will - you will have a 7 month old who you would be able to plop into a playpen or bouncy saucer thing". The husband was like "won't the baby be walking by then?" lol!!

                            :end hijack:

I used the timer and loved it. You push a button when you fed the baby or diapered him or whatever and it let's you know how much time has passed. It was very helpful when you are sleep deprived and can't figure out why the baby is crying or when the peditrician asks how often the baby nurses or your husband wakes you up to nurse and you can prove that you just finished nursing 14 minutes ago. I also used it to keep track of when I took pain meds while recovering from my c-section and could not take them more frequently than every 4 hours. When you have a new baby, time is a very intangible thing. I've even advised stressed out new moms to turn the clocks toward the wall so that they don't know that it's 3AM or whatever. For the first few weeks, you really do live your life in intervals between feedings and naps.
