  • Sippy Cups

I'm looking for sippy cup recommendations. I'm on a mission to transition DD (13 months) from baby bottle to a something more toddler appropriate and potentially with less assembly required. So far I've tried several different kinds of sippy cups but none of them have been working out for both of us. The no-spill ones are great for me but aren't very liked by DD because the valve requires an adult set of lungs to get any decent amount of liquid out. The valve-less ones don't work for me because I end up with puddles everywhere. Is there a contraption that is something in between? She's game to try just about anything at least once but will throw them all across the room once she's done, so I'd prefer something on lighter side that doesn't leak. Is it an option to wait until she stops throwing?

Have you tried the straw sippy cups with the valves? they have a cover to flip over to hide the straw too I don't know if those would be easier than the just plain ones, but I know the little ones I work with LOVE those cups over their regular sippy cuts, but that could just be because its "grown up" to have a straw. Plus the little boy likes opening and closing the straw lid.

Here is the one they have: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Qe0OuA2NJz..._straw_cup.jpg

ETA: ugh, I looked them up more and it turns out they have updated them and they aren't as good anymore. Why mess with a good thing?

We use Tilty cups, but they have no valve and will leak a little bit if tossed. My dd is getting used to them, they are easier because she doesn't have to tip her head way back to get fluid. They have different lids with slower flow that might work better for you. http://www.tiltycup.com/

We used the Avent ones during transition....also had a Sigg. Now we use the Playtex ones that come two to a pack in every grocery store. They haven't leaked yet and the boys are able to guzzle them.

ETA:these are the Playtex ones we use:

I tried a ton of different ones w/Mattie, and finally settled on the Nalgene and Camelbak cups. They're a little pricey, but insanely durable, and as she gets older, you can switch out for a "sport top" so you get a lot of use out of them.

We used the Dr. Brown's ones to start because they require very very little suction. Also the ones with the wide straw that flips up and down are awesome.

We started with Nuby, then switched to Playtex.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried a couple of Dr. Browns ones and the new ones are pretty hard to get any liquid to come out (I've tried myself). I'll get Playtex and the straw ones and see how those will do. She has no problems tilting the cup all the way up and finally understands how the non-nipple thing works.

We use the Gerber which are now NUK's - they have valves but R hasn't had any issues getting fluid out of them.

We use Nuby. They have a soft spout that opens up when they bite down, instead of having to suck on it really hard.

Oh yeah, we had Nuby ones too. I forgot about them bc I gave them away to a friend who's daughter had feeding issues. They worked well for her daughter.

We have a Born Free bottle with soft spout but I never thought of it as a sippy cup. Will add NUK to my shopping list.

And its TOTALLY normal to go through a lot, I think. I went through a ton with both of my kids until I found the ones that we both liked.

We received the Playtex ones from a friend of mine (mom to a little 2 yr old boy) and she swears by them. No leaks.
