  • How to wean...

I was talking to a mother at the playground today. She was born in Korea and raised here in the States.
Somehow we got to talking about reflux and she mentioned how she was able to wean her son from breast feeding.

She told me that her son was 2.5, and in order to get him to stop asking to feed, she would put chili oil on her nipples. She said it was the only thing that worked (she'd tried lemon juice, vinegar). And the part that had me in stitches is that her son told her "mama, you taste like kim chee!"

That is hilarious! Friends of friends of ours couldn't wean their 2 year old daughter. While at a wedding the toddler kept yanking on the mom saying "Boobie in the car! Boobie in the car!"

Yikes! We did the cold turkey method at 2 yrs 3 months since nothing else was working. It was hard but we made it through. I cant imagine trying to make them stop by putting something offensive on my breasts. Yikes!

Oh, my word. If the kid is capable of complete sentences including subject, predicate and inflection...time to turn of the tit!

I breastfed alex until he was 3 .... and only stopped bf*ing Aidan at 18 mo to start chemotherapy. I never thought I would be "that mom" but frankly, I have no problem with the fact that we did it for so long now. Actually, it's not for anyone else to judge. . As far as weaning ... I never put anything anywhere. Just a "not anymore" and gentle offer of something else. There were some rough nights with Aidan but Thomas got up and walked with him.

              To each their own.

Thanks for sharing I always find it helpful to know that others have breastfed their children for extended lengths of time. I just weaned DD at 23 months, and it was bittersweet. I feel relieved to be done, but at the same time sad that that experience is over.

As for the original post - yowsa!
