Video monitor

I know I asked this before, when dd was tiny, but it has been almost two years since then, and I'm sure many things have changed in baby consumer-land.

We bought a video monitor for dd when we first moved her out of our room. It was complete sh*t, and we kept staring at the monitor... There was also a light that would shine at dd and keep her up... We returned it.

Fast forward to today. I put dd down for her nap. She cried and cried for 30 minutes. She usually talks for about 5 minutes and then sleeps. So, in I went, and saw that her leg was caught between the crib bars. She was sweaty, crying buckets, and in so much pain.

Do you have any recs for a video monitor?

Poor baby!! But most likely this will be the only time it happens...

We haven't used a video monitor before. But don't be hard on yourself!! Stuff like this happens.

I don't know anyone who uses one, TBH. Don't beat yourself up though- Peggy's right- it likely won't happen again.

I suck!!! This evening I lifted dd out of the bathtub and put her down on our bed to dry her off. She was clutching a toy from the tub and then when I dried her hair and lay her back down, kerplunk! She hit her head on the toy with the back of her head.

How am I qualified to do this!?!??!

You need to chill, my friend. You have a toddler. Getting stuck, bonking their heads, falling down- it's their job. Just remember that it ALWAYS bothers you more than it bothers her. Toddlers are so cute because they're basically terrorists in diapers. It's the only way they survive, the cuteness factor. I had to move my seat at an outdoor concert a few weeks ago because I was convinced this toddler (who was w/ his family) was going to fall into the river. I couldn't relax. Brought back memories that I'd apparently suppressed from dude's toddlerhood.

I absolutely love it. It does have a light on the camera, but I put a piece of masking tape over it, and it isn't nearly as bright and I still see her just fine. It has been a sanity saver for me because there were so many times when I would hear a sound on the monitor and not know whether I should check on her. Now, I can clearly see when she is just resettling herself and when she is awake and needs my help.

San Antonio's Riverwalk makes me nervous! How many people fall into the river?

I do need to chill. I'm totally on edge recently. Dd has done this before, and since we let her CIO, we don't go in there. She only cries when there's a problem, so I should have gone in to help her out immediately. .

I think it would help us out in the mornings. She often lies there talking to herself until 10am! I never know if she's climbing over the rails or has been able to take off all her clothes (the latter of which she has done).

We have one, it's got a light, it doesn't bother her. 90% of the time I don't know where the monitor part is (we had to find it for our trip to Hawaii so MIL could use it). I generally trust myself to know if her cries are ornery or injured, but if we're going through a phase of fussiness, I'll use it to peak in and see if there's vomit or something.

We use one and DD is 18 months. I would say we have a single story home that isn't BIG. I've wondered how well it would work if we had a bigger home. I have it for the reason you gave... I sometimes hear her in there and we check the video monitor just to make sure all is well. Most of the time it's off. It's on about one hour a day total and gives me that peace of mind.

We have the same one and the light never bothered her, her mobile has a brighter light. I really only use it to see if she's just talking to herself or if there's a problem. She also likes to hang out in her crib for a while but I usually just let her be unless she's been crying hard for a while. DH and my dad are the crazies that can't live without that camera and need to see proof that she's fine and doesn't need to be picked up.

We had the Summer Infant, and it interfered with our wifi. Tried another brand and it interfered with our phones. Finally, we went with a security camera from Sam's club. It's awesome. With the first two kids, I had regular monitors, but for the third, I really wanted to see what was going on. I LOVE it! The first two nights, DH had to take it away from me because I stayed up late watching DD sleep (we got it when she was a newborn, though). Now, when I'm cooking dinner and the kids are in the playroom, I put the monitor down there. It stops a lot of tattling!
