  • Sleeping in crib

How old were your little ones before you allowed them to sleep in their cribs with blankets, lovies or stuffed animals? A friend and I were discussing this yesterday and I was curious what you ladies thought/did.

Once he was reliably lifting his head, rolling over, sitting up. I think I gave him a light blanket when he was about 8 mos since it had gotten cold.

My pediatrician said we could start using a blanket at one year, but I'm sure earlier is fine as long as they have good head control and can move things with their arms. Small lovies without buttons or loose clothing are probably fine then, too. I wouldn't do anything big or really fluffy.

DD was born in the fall time. I didn't give her a blanket then. When she was able to move around and sit up I felt ok with giving her a blanket, but by then it was summer and i didn't think she needed one. I think at around a year old i put one int he crib with her only because it was getting cold out and didn't want her to be a chill in her room.

Ped okay'ed our dd to have a light blanket at 6 months bc of her head/neck control. We added a stuffed otter at roughly 9-10 months.

I suck as a mother because Sophie hated the sleep sack things and since she was born in January she got a blanket pretty much right away. It was either that or neither of us would get much sleep. Sleep won.

For warmth my kids always wore the sleep sacks.

For a lovey they each had one of those blanket/animal head things when they would instinctively remove it from their faces. I don't remember how old they were but I tested them by putting something on their head when we were playing and if they instinctively reached up and pulled it off then I would give them one to sleep with.

Never worried about it. Our NICU also gave us little blankets to cover babies in and Zoe had a giraffe Lovey from day 1. I think as long as you aren't throwing a thick comforter in bed, you're fine.

The Russians had them in THICK clothes and lots of blankets but there were three per crib and they were in Siberia in the winter so it kind of makes sense.

Thanks all! I feel much better now. Ava-Marie has a lovey that she likes to sleep with and when she wakes up she grabs it and will go back to sleep. I let her have it at nap time and leave it with her and she has it at bed time, but I take it out before I go to bed. I feel much better about leaving it in there now.

FYI this is what she has it is 13x13 http://www.angeldear.net/gift_images...nk_lamb_xl.jpg

Oh yeah, that's fine, I'm sure! I would love for DS to attach to a lovey, so good for AM!

We don't put anything in the crib until at least 18 months, but at the same time I leave the bumpers in until the crib is taken down so I might not be the one to ask .

ETA: when our second was a baby was the time children were pulling the fitted sheets of the crib matress, getting wrapped up in them and then sufocating. DS wrapped himself up twice before the warning came out and they changed the way they made crib sheets. Sooo very scary!!

Ava-Marie's crib has the "breathable bumpers" , which is a padded mesh. I didnt put the bumpers in when she was an infant, and now that she is rolling around they make me nervous because she would bury her face in them, but out her limbs would be hanging out of the crib.. thus the breathable bumpers.

I use the breathable bumpers too. I like them because now that BabyK is climbing, he cannot use them as a step. They just collapse when he tries to step on them.

We have the breathable bumpers, too! I got them because DS was sticking his arms and legs through the slats.
