  • Chilled Teething Ring

Are these safe? I can't remember if they were declared dangerous or not. There's one in Whole Foods I'm eyeing that's BPA free and is filled with sterilized water.

I don't know about their safety but I do know that not a single one of our five used one of any shape or form. Frozen or not, it didn't seem to help them (yes, I know you are not supposed to freeze them). They do however work as great projectiles when the kids get older or if it is in a ring shape the kids have fun trying to ring them on something in the house.

Maybe teething tablets? He's too young for Baby Orajel, I think. But hey, I'm the BabyDummy, so...

We are HUGE fans of Motrin around here, best invention ever!! I think they have an infant version. If not Tylenol will work better than teething tablets, gel, anything. For chewing, some of ours liked to chew on a wet washcloth.

We use Tylenol and Ibuprofen (NOT TOGETHER), Ibuprofen lasts longer. I would avoid the teething tablets, recently, Hyland's Teething Tablets were recalled due to unsafe amounts of Belladonna (aka Deadly Nightshade). Teething rings are fine I think, but like Tara, we've never been huge fans. However, a damp washcloth provides tons of relief. Baby Orajel is generally avoided these days for fear of overuse, although our ped said it was fine if used extremely sparingly. We've only used it once or twice and it does not even come close to the relief that Motrin (Ibuprofen) or Tylenol provides. There is Infant Motrin and Infant Tylenol. Call your ped and ask what they recommend and what the dosage is for Bean's weight.

I was sitting in a darkened hotel room in Moscow, having just outprocessed through the American Embassy (by myself) and facing a 12 hour flight the following morning. My new baby was inconsolable. Hysterically crying. I'm crying- he doesn't understand me, I don't speak his language, it was awful. At some point it finally dawned on me that he 'might' be teething. Yes, apparently access to five days of consistent meals and hydration was all it took for six teeth to erupt. All at once! Once I figured that out I gave him some infant tylenol and then alternated w/ infant motrin (which is ok per my husband!) and suddenly he turned into dream baby.

Oh yes, LOVE the Tylenol/Motrin piggyback method!!!! Our ped says it's a-okay too

There's another brand of teething tablets similar to Hylands at Babies R Us. Never used them, but a friend registered for them. I'm skeptical of homeopathy, but dang those Hylands tablets worked wonders with my little sister. I still remember the screaming from 12 years ago!

BabyK rarely fussed during teething but we use the infant tylenol. Be careful about the tylenol/Motrin cocktail. I've used it myself for pain when I broke a tooth and it made me kinda stoned/glassy eyed.

For the record, we alternate the use of Tylenol and Motrin, we never combine them together.

I know. Alternating it made me stoned so I'd still be careful. I suppose people rwact differently.

I've used the Tylenol-Motrin combo for my post C-section pain relief and it worked great....and I've used it with all three of my kids as young as 6 or 8 months old and have had no ill effects. My boys didn't take to chilled teethers, but Phedre loves them. I keep 6 in the fridge and rotate them. My nephew loved them as well (which is how I figured out P liked them, she kept taking his). I did the wet chilled washrag with Daegan. My sister swears by some new teething drops, but I'm wary with the homeopathy formulas bc they aren't regulated by the FDA. I believe in homeopathy and alternative medicines, I just don't trust the manufacturers.

He's 3 mos. now, and showing early signs. His pain cry is just awful. I've been giving him 1/2 doses of baby Tylenol based on his weight, and it seems to take the edge off. I just didn't want to do that all the time -- did you guys hold out until the crying was hysterical, or did you also do a preventative dose if you saw the screaming on the horizon? I guess I'm just concerned about over-medicating or using it as a crutch.
