  • potty training

I'm totally lost, you guys. I have no idea when kids start, and how it works. I have no friends or family with kids M's age.

I think M has potty trained herself. I started about 3 months ago with putting her on a potty just for fun. Nothing ever came out. And in the last 3 days, when we are home, she'll tell me "I pee pee potty." We go up to the potty, and she pees.

    So, is that it?

Does it make sense to let her pee in the potty at home and in diapers while we're out?

La la la... Pretending DS will just let me know when he figures it out on his own...

. Maybe it's that she sees me pee?
I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing/encouraging at this point. I mean the goal is #2 on it too, right?

We're still working in that goal. Wildfin was witness to our lack of progress Thursday. Big. Fail.

Does he go around the same time each day?
Can you park him on the potty around then with some form of entertainment? M will tell me a few seconds before it comes that it's coming. She's pooped on the floor as I was getting her to the potty, so I really only have a few seconds between when she tells me and when she's got to be on the pot.

Nope. Different times. He gets constipated easily so DH gives him miralax daily. But he will try to hold it in whe he's constipated so he just makes things worse. I have him in pull-ups until he consistently goes in the potty. He does pee in it fine though.

DS sees me go all day long. I even tell him I'm peeing or pooping. Maye TMI, but I'm hoping when I get brave enough to potty train, he'll at least have the vocabulary down!

Dd takes miralax too. It's really helping her! Of course her pooping schedule is all over the place, but she does tell me when it's coming. Does your ds know?

With both of the girls that I've potty trained we started peeing on the potty at home and pull ups when out since it's easier and safer...and it backfired both times. They would just freely pee in it like they weren't potty trained and hold their poop until they had on a diaper. I decided with this 2nd one I'd bite the bullet and do undies all the time (after the pull ups thing went on for a bit) and she's done much better.

Sophie treats a pull up just like a diaper, so for us, we only use them when she sleeps and on long car trips. It took MONTHS for her to figure out how to poop on the potty. MONTHS. I despaired of her ever figuring it out. But she did and I would now consider her potty trained.

I've bought a potty months ago and planted it in the bathroom next to the toilet. She'll happily sit on it in her pants (while I'm doing my business) but that's about it. She's staying with my parents for a week and my mom is convinced she can have her potty trained in that time. I don't see it happening but we'll just have to see.

I'm super jealous that your DD will actually tell you that she has to go.

Hey if your mom thinks she can potty train her, let her try maybe you'll be happily spared that joy of parenting.

I think he does. He pooped in the potty twice today for DH. I think part of the problem is when he's backed up, he tries to hold it in instead of using the potty and then messes his pants. We're getting there. Slowly.

Well, in his defense, I think a lot of adults do that. Sharting, anyone?!
