How about giving her a sippy cup with the straw? It could be her special milk cup and truly, there is nothing wrong with chocolate milk.

They make a thermos with a built in straw. Might help, and milk lasts longer because it stays cold.

Is there something bad about straws?

I don't know if this will work with older kids but once we wanted to wean DD from pediasure we started cutting it with whole milk, very slowly, until it was all milk. By the time it was mostly milk, she had figured it out but had gotten a taste for milk. If you decide to give chocolate milk, that might be something to try.

Our pediatrician actually recommended that DD#1 use a straw for a while, to help develop some of the muscles around her mouth. She was a drool machine! It took a couple of months, but it seemed to help.

Ours said the same thing, he promotes straw use over sippy-cups for the oral benefit.

That is good to know - no I don't think there is anything wrong with straws I just don't want to have to keep buying them. I carry bendy ones in my purse for when we're out but don't usually let them use them at home.

They make reusable straws if you're interested.

Okay I thought I had missed a mommy memo. It wouldn't be the first time!

DS always uses cups with straws and lids because he's so messy. I rinse the straws and use them for the rest of the day so the boxes last a while. I have DD drinking from a straw too - I never found a sippy cup that I liked so hoping to avoid them altogether this time!

When DS started speech and language therapy, they had all the kids sucking pudding through shortened straws to build the muscles.

We just use cups that have the straw included like thse - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...JXAFKHY8CTBDXK

I like them because you can take the entire staw out of the lid and take then take the straw apart to wash it. These are the only cups that we haven't had gross mold grow in the lid/straw.

I also keep the bendy straws in the car for when we are out. You'd think that restraunts would know better than to give kids a non-bendy straw!
