  • Vitamin D Supplementing

DH thinks we need it - my old PC and LC didn't think so.
We BF and we're working on solids - do I need to make this a priority?

DH and our ped wanted K to take Poly-visol (gross vitamin for babies). I told both of them they could give it to him, but it was gross and smelly and I wasn't going to bother with it when the kid was quite healthy anyway.

Given where you live, sunlight is easy to come by. 10 minutes in early morning or late afternoon should do the trick if he's concerned.

That's what I said, but he's concerned. Ah, first baby.
I'm more laid back about most things than he is.

Obviously I don't have kids, but I agree with BonBon. Even after reading the AAP recommendations on Vitamin D and babies: http://www.healthychildren.org/Engli...Your-Baby.aspx.

I gather my DH would probably be somewhere between the AAP recommendations and sun exposure; I can't recall him making a lot of recs for Vitamin D supplements in healthy, term babies. Your ped/PC would know best. I'm sure Bean is getting some sun when you go to SS a couple of times per week.

We supplement. Even considering that where we live has an immense amount of sun, we were advised to do it. D-vis-sol is apparently delicious to my dd. Our ped said the combination vitamins bottle is gross, so we've never done that one. The research coming out is showing potential benefit with few (to no) downsides. I struggled w/the decision too, but am glad I let DH convince me.

I gave D drops.. I used this instead of the poly-vi-sol which DD thought was disgusting:http://www.amazon.com/Carlson-Labs-N.../dp/B003BVIBMO

Really easy if you are nursing, just put a drop on your nipple before you nurse. No dropper to clean!

I think it was poly-vis-sol that we were told to avoid.

Found a bottle of Carlson's D in our things, so I'm going to use it to alleviate DH's worries. I'm not worried, but he is, so I'll just do it.
