I would say start talking now. They already know something is up (A does anyway) and the more time they have to process the better. It might be really anticlimactic though-- you might say-- we are moving, and they say... Oh, can I watch TV?

Honestly the easiest thing about my move this summer has been sthat the kids have known we are moving for years. No drama there. They all knew we would move, and it's just not a big deal to them. It's just a different house. And the love the storage unit we rented for thinning our stuff. They think it's so fun to go there. Maybe my kids are weird. I don't know.
This is exactly us. Part of the move isn't a big deal for our kids because they knew it was going to happen, they knew to expect it. We've always just talked about it like it's simply a normal part of life. I'm not reading any books or doing anything like that (but I'm kinda lazy about that stuff).

This is a great idea. We aren't moving for a year but I'm writing those books down for future reference!

Cheri if you get a chance let us know what you think of the books and if you think they helped your kids. DS had a hard time with our last transition and I want to make our next as easy as possible for him.

I think whenever the boxes come out is the logical time to start talking with your kids about the move.

So we've been reading all 3, they're all good and all a little different. A seems to like the Berenstein Bears one the most or at least that is the one she asks to read the most. We'll continue to read all 3.
