  • Reverting sleep

ok, I've tried EVERYTHING. I need some ideas. A was FINALLY sleeping through the night, only waking up once, for a few weeks. Now she is waking up every. single. hour. I know she isn't hungry. Even if I go in her room and feed her, she'll fall back asleep for an hour, and then wake up fussing. I've tried having DH go in and pat her without picking her up, and again, she falls alseep and wakes up in another hour. Last night I was SO tired, that I just let her fuss. (she isn't screaming in pain) She just fussed and fussed and fussed. eventually she would fall alseep and then wake up again 45 minutes later.
I literally feel like I will die if I have another of these nights.

I've also tried gas drops, tylenol, different PJs, xantac.

Growth spurt, maybe? Has A been eating more than usual?

My dd did this right before developmental milestones. Once we hit it, sleep would return to normal. Growth spurt is a very real possibility too.

First, every time one of my kids has a sleep issue I get my copy of "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" back out, and it usually has some ideas or reminds me of something that has changed. For as different as my three children are, that book really does have something for each of them. Do you have a video monitor? Could she be bumping into the sides of the crib or something like that and waking herself up? Does she just miss you (I know, that would suck)? Maybe it is a milestone time. When any of our kids did this, DH and I found 1 day in the calendar where I could sleep somewhere else (guestroom, couch, etc) and he would bring the baby to me once to eat. Otherwise, I slept. Otherwise, I started to feel like I was losing my mind, and really couldn't deal. Hoping you get some rest, soon!

It seems to me that it lasts *just* long enough for me to swear I can not do it for one more second longer....just until I hit my breaking point....and then things get better.

Deebs, I don't own that book, I better go get it right now. A1 was such a good sleeper, I never had to deal with any of this with her. I'll try anything at this point, especially a book.

I just hope it doesn't last forever...I eon't know what will happen to me.

A couple of other people have mentioned it on here, too. It just seems to be one of those books that applies to many kids, not just one type (which is my frustration with other books).

Don't panic, it's normal for babies to have nights like you described. It does not mean that she will do this every single night every single hour, I promise. She could have been gassy, or have another issue that the meds just were not able to touch last night. Hang in there mama

Just bought the sleep book for my iPad. Ah, the beauty of the internet.

This is the 3rd night of this...I hope tonight is the night that ends this habit.

Great book! Also, have you checked for teeth?

I've been on the lookout for teeth. I can see the two bottoms, but her gums arent swollen and they dont look too close to the surface yet...She is almost 5 months now though, so I guess they might be starting to bother her.

This blog has several posts about common regressions and 4 months is a biggie. Both my kids were sleeping okay until this time and then their sleep went to crap. My DD still sleeps worse than she did at 3 months, but I have been so committed to co sleeping/ no crying.

How is her pooping? M used to wake up almost hourly when she was backed up.
