  • Refluxy baby and nap nanny?

My friend just had her third baby, but first with reflux. She is looking at a nap nanny. I told her to check out the Mamaroo, but really just because I'd heard another mom raving about it and I know her baby has reflux, too. What say the wise mamas and papas of iMSN?

Never knew what a nap nanny was until now!

As for the mamaroo...it's good, but if your child likes violent movement, just get a swing. N likes the G force inducing swing at my mom's much better than the gentle motion of the Mamaroo, though she occasionally (very occasionally) falls asleep in it.

My reflux baby slept in his carseat with his ped's blessing.

This particular baby pukes in the carseat (I think her body squishes down too much -she's only 3 weeks old, so i think thats why theyre looking for other options. Their first two babies slept in the carseat for quiite a while. I did ask if they knew a doctor close and could borrow some old textbooks (like the many we still have from med school) to prop up the crib and bassinet.

We also did the propping up of the mattress ad rolled towels on each side of him from the waist down to keep him from sliding down the incline. The problem with the mapper is they're pretty pricey and grow out of it so fast.

We loved our nap nanny!!! It was a blessing for our NICU baby who refused to sleep flat after one week of an inclined bed in the NICU. Worth every single penny.

Oh and she still (at 14 months) loves to lounge in it

I don't have one, but lots of my friends have used them and love it!

When googling nap nanny I saw that they were recalled.

I elevated the head of D's co-sleeper by placing books under the legs.

I thought about getting a Tucker sling...but then he didn't really sleep in his crib all that much.

I wore him in the wrap for pretty much all naps....and 30 min after all feedings kept him upright either holding or in the wrap....did the small feedings more often...and Prilosec once he was old enough (metoclopramide and Pepcid before 4m).

There are fitted crib sheet with pockets to keep the baby from sliding down to one end of the crib. We used to put books under M's mattress to tilt one end up a bit.

Honestly, if the reflux is bad, none of the stuff helps. Just good drugs.

I can't believe I'm still emotional about this topic...

                      .
It's important to note that even after the recall the Nap Nanny should still NOT be used in the crib due to entrapment.

I'm with Alison - nothing has been as valuable as getting A medicated!

When she was littler and squishier, she slept propped up by the Boppy on our bed. I have a friend whose daughter sleeps propped by the Boppy in her crib. A never did well with the tilted crib...it messes with her mind and she thinks she is sliding. We didn't do the carseat until she was 6 or 7 weeks old.

This is all very helpful. I had the same safety concern with the nap nanny (although it is back on the market), but none of my kids had reflux and I do realize how horrible it is and how desperate a parent can get, especially when sleep deprived. The whole reason I asked is because my friend put something on FB asking people if she should get one, and I googled it and found some really alarming stuff. I don't think they're at the point of medication yet because the baby actually doesn't seem to be uncomfortable - she just wants to eat all the time, and then projectile spit-ups. I actually suggested they take her to her ped because I suspected reflux and thought my friend was going to go insane trying to feed constantly. I will give her some of the ideas you have suggested. Hopefully something will help - I think they've pretty much been holding her constantly for the last week to keep her elevated.

We didn't start meds until after Christmas (7wks). Our ped did an Rx without pain because she didn't want A getting to that point...it doesn't hurt to ask!

Mine also slept strapped into their bouncer. On the floor, not in the crib.
