He had a craptastic night (teething), so, after an hour of trying to soothe, I caved and let him nurse.
      Epic fail!

That is not an epic fail, that is self preservation.

All bets are off when they are teething or ill. You'll get back on track when he's feeling better.

I agree with Mrs K. We still go in when M is sick to rock her back to sleep.

I'd say not cruel at all, if anything it's setting up for a really bad habit that will be harder to break after a year. I night weaned my kids at 6 months. Why? Because I LOVE sleep, and even better, my kids deserve me sane.

Yup, same here. My fave sleep book actually says its okay to discontinue habit-changing if sick/teething. You'll get back on track in no time.

I think I would fit in in France too. In comparison to most of you, I'm probably one of the meanest mommies. I took away the boob completely at 7 months in order to get some sleep. She was sleeping like a champ within a couple of weeks.

Just coming off of a clogged duct, so we'll see what happens tonight.
I have really bad luck with regulating supply, and a tendency to get blockages/infection. I am terrified of what true weaning could look like for me.

He's so close to either dropping this night feeding, or the post breakfast/pre-nap one. I'd like to push him in the "no nights" direction.

It's easier if you're pregnant again

I'm in the exact same situation-- a 10 month old who eats a ton during the day, has plenty to drink, and still wakes up at least 1 time a night, if not 2. I think he's teething (ugh) so now it's back up to 3-4 times a night. Hugs. Hope we both sleep more soon!
