Yes, exactly what I was talking about and we LOVED it. I've only seen it at a few stores (Whole Foods maybe?) and I think we bought ours online with a pack of extra filters. It works really well for us (used following a squirt of saline), especially alongside the humidifier.

I keep meaning to buy one. N gets congested and won't nurse because she cannot breathe. They sell them at Buy Buy Baby too. I'm about to order one from Amazon now!

Of course we don't have any Whole Foods or Buy Buy Baby...or even a BRU close by Off to see if one of my pregnant friends got one and I can buy them a new one!

My kids' last pediatrician didn't realize how dangerous VapoRub could be to kids until he and DH had a long discussion (over a tox book) about it. He had recommended I use it for DD, and DH called and invited him for a beer (and some education).
Yeah...I gave it about as much stock as great-grandma's suggestion to "give her some sugar to stop her hiccoughs".

Deebs - do you mean the regular Vicks VapoRub or the baby one? If the baby one, is there any material online I can read about it? My sister was just telling me how she uses it on her 2 year old.

Eh...no more runny nose to speak of, but the cough may kill me If she were a grown-up, she would be getting a lot of stuff up. Instead, she basically coughs, half-chokes, and swallows Any suggestions?

                Thanks for checking in!

I'd just give her as much fluid as she can take and steam the heck out of her in the bathroom. I'm sorry she's still sick.

Ravenclaw - most of my info is in DHs tox books and his brain (a lot of his research has been toxicology focused, so he's not a toxicologist, but tox does fall under EM and it's one of his "areas of interest" if that makes sense). He told me last night that most of the respiratory issues were coming from menthol because menthol can cause people to increase mucus secretions and babies' tiny airways can't handle that, and when you look online at the ingredient differences, the baby formulation doesn't contain menthol or camphor. It does still have eucalyptus in it. If you go online, there are a bunch of moms that say how great it works. However, DH basically said that eucalyptus is toxic enough that he wouldn't even want it in our house. I don't know if that's more because of fear that an older child could get into it and rub it on themselves or ingest it - when I pushed him he basically said, any decent doctor would tell you to use fluid, steam showers, humidifier, rest (in other words, he started to get annoyed with me).

We are a family that has our meds, cleaners, toothpaste, etc all out of child access. Sometimes DH has probably just seen a little too much. .

I feel like coughs take forever to go away esp. in little ones. It's scary and painful to watch them suffering and not be able to help very much. Hang in there!

Nosefrida really is a life saver. Seems like the most disgusting thing ever, but with the filter in there's no way you could accidentally ingest anything disgusting. DH says he now basically tells every parent about it who comes into the ER with a congested baby/toddler. He thinks its amazing.
