  • Urg pink eye

It looks like DD got pink eye (seriously 1st winter in daycare has sucked big time). Anyway, the stupid question is how can we avoid getting it from her? Also, grandparents are coming Sunday for her birthday party. Should we reschedule?

Wash her hands and your hands frequently. Pray to the pink eye gods.

Also avoid touching your eyes. Avoid touching hers. If she touches her eyes wash her hands and whatever toy she handles.

That plus cloroxing everything she touches. I wouldn't cancel (unless she's too cranky) but just give a heads up. she should turn around quickly with treatment.

I'm trying to think of how long it usually takes my DD to have it clear up with the drops or eye goop meds. Maybe a day??? Does that seem wrong to everyone else? I think she'll be fine by Sunday.

She'll be fine by Sunday. Still on drops but fine. Administering the drops at her age will be challenging. It will take two adults. I'd give her a treat after. Poor baby.

I always use the eye goop at that age-- the drops sting. Better to have the drops in hand for you though just in case. I've caught pink eye from the kids a couple of times. The eye goop sucks for adults but it gets the job done...

Yup, pink eye here too! K2 is the goopiest kid I've ever seen. Just started suddenly this afternoon. We went to a new playgroup on Tues without K1 so I'm guessing that's where he picked it up. DrK is gone tonight and most of the weekend. I've been frantically trying to keep K1 away from the baby. Last time, even out dog got it. Ick!

Haven't been to the ped yet, will call for an appt tomorrow morning. DH is on vacation this week is in denial that she'll need to stay home tomorrow. My hands are all cracked from all the constant washing this winter. I try to wash hers as much as possible but it's a losing battle. I really hope I don't get because I can't drive in glasses and generally pretty useless without my contacts. Did your spouses go to work if they got it?

Last time my parents came to help us out when we all got the GI bug, they got it too. So this time I want to be extra cautious.

Same here! Can't see without contacts either. Can your DH call in some ointment for her? The day care will send her right home if she's goopy and she'll just get worse while waiting for treatment. Also, the ointment is 4x daily so you'll need to keep her close to treat her. Last time we all got it, they sent DrK home and would not let him see patients with goopy eyes ... And he's a psychiatrist! It's not like there's lots of touching.

Oh, and is there any way you can get your hands on a daily wear contact lens? I'm going to count on that if I need to drive.

And you'll have to toss your eye make up if you get it.

That's awful! Pink eye is so yucky-feeling (and easy to catch) - I asked DH if he'd ever had it, and he said he "couldn't remember."
IMO, you definitely remember if you've had pink eye. I hope your DD gets well soon, and here's to no more cases for members or guests of your household.

Yes, and they WILL send her home from daycare if she has pink-eye or even hints at it.

DrK woke up with it this morning. He held K2 for just a few minutes when he got home last night. I'm gearing up for a long day of icky babies and endless laundry.

eeewwww. I.freaking.hate.pink.eye. Our last winter in residency we passed it around forever. I *swear* it started my eyes down a path of being perpetually dry and inhibits my ability to wear contacts as much. Good luck getting rid of the crusty crap.
