  • Heating bottles

You were all so helpful with my last question, so I'm going to put another one out there! Thanks in advance! None of my friends have kids, so I really appreciate all the info I can get from the women on this website.

    1) At what age can you stop heating bottles? (Either of breastmilk or formula) I have always given my baby breastmilk at room temperature if it's being eaten within a few hours of pumping, but I always heat the bottle if I'm taking it out of the fridge. So, I guess what I'm wondering is at what age can a baby have a cold bottle straight from the fridge?

    2) How do you heat bottles when you're on the go?

    Thanks!

My kids and my nephews were always happy with bottles at room temperature. When using formula I might heat the water for 20 or 30 seconds before mixing in formula if it's really cold.

To answer #2 - we have a bottle warmer for the car. Since we take almost monthly trips to see family (4 hours) it was worth it to us.

As far as #1 - we warm A's bottles to just get the chill off (not quite room temp). No one has ever told us otherwise

N got them early, but she isn't picky about food. I'd take a bottle in a cooler when we went out and she would want it before it had warmed a bit. So it wasn't on purpose.

I've stopped heating after 2-3 months. It was too much of a hassle and she didn't care. I would shake breastmilk well if separated.

I heated the bottles for a long time if it was cold from the fridge... like 11 months old. lol! Most of the time the water was room tempt when I mixed the formula.
