  • Potty Incidents 4 yrs old

So A has been having several potty incidents the last few weeks. The two days before her surgery last week she wet herself several times, no warning, no telling me she needed to go, nothing until she was soaked. Then Friday she had her surgery and was incident free all weekend while she recovered. Since then she has been doing a lot of telling me she needs to go but not going until I go with her whereas before she was doing a great job of going completely by herself. I make a HUGE deal out of it when she goes COMPLETELY by herself.

Today was pajama day at school so she got up and changed from her pull-up into regular panties and went to school just like that, before we left the house she went in and went potty.

When I picked her up she was in her extra set of clothes which means she had an accident. It was in the gym, during recess time. Again, no warning, no telling anyone just completely wet herself and then had to change.

She is not potty trained at night, I'm still hopeful that her surgery will help with that since she did not have a regular sleep pattern before the surgery but seems to be doing much better now. She just finished her last dose of amoxicillan last night but I really don't think that is the issue.

Anyway, she's been potty trained for over a year and a half. She's 4 years and 1 month old - I'm just wondering if I should be looking for some other issue since this keeps happening ?!?!??

UTI? Does she have any other symptoms? Extra thirst? Burning when she pees?

For now I'd put her on a schedule-- like every 90 min she needs to take a break to pee. Could just be anxiety...

My dd has great control-- but she's peed herself a few times out of the blue this last few weeks. Super frustrating but not a pattern yet. She's just Too Busy to take a break.

I'm hoping it's something as simple as slowing down and building more frequent potty breaks into your day for you!!!

Aloha from paradise! And the other side of training!

Did she ever do this before?
I don't want to be a total alarmist, but this concerns me. My own experiences could be clouding my opinion here, but still, it does concern me a little bit.

Yes, to what Peggy said. If she is wanting you to come with her I would lean more to the possibility of anxiety. She has had A LOT go on in the last year with your move, her brother's health scare, her own surgery, the move back to KS and all that comes with that and she just turned four. Putting her on a schedule and being able to have you go with her when she needs you to will help her get over the hump if anxiety is the issue. If it's not the schedule will help you determine a potential medical cause.

Yes, she has done it before off and on since she was trained. She'll go by herself great for a long period of time and then she'll regress to insisting I go with her, then she'll go back to doing it herself and then she'll regress.

It may be because she senses all the incredible changes you guys are going through. Getting ready to move, etc. Kids are very sensitive that way, and respond often with regression.

This is what first came to mind. Also my Kindergartner has had a couple of incidents where he has gotten "too busy," thinking he could go later when he finished whatever it was he was doing. We had the talk that when he has that urge he needs to stop right away and go to the bathroom.
