Yeah, I'm already fretting about K2's first birthday and it's 3 mos away. I'm thinking of a Green Eggs and Ham theme (as in Sam I Am). But we don't do ham so, Green Eggs and Jam?

Lol! Just wait. We have 7 birthday parties to attend over the next two months. It will suck your weekends up even when it's not your own kid.

We only had immediate family over (grandparents and DH's brother with wife) for the past two years. DD has no idea, so we decided to save ourselves the trouble. Some of our friends throw productions for tens of thousand of dollars. i don't get it either. I'm hoping to still get away with no party next year.

I feel like I should clarify my response. We rented a birthday room at a play place (not a restaurant, but we got a discount on Papa Johns pizza to serve there) for DS's first birthday. This year, we just took him to Chuck E Cheese as a family (not a party). There is another boy in our Bible study group who was born on the same day as DS, so we had our group over for dinner and cake, but it was really low-key. He already had a big party in my hometown where a lot of my family lives, so it's kind of been a month-long celebration anyway...

There's no way I'd have a big party with all his kid friends in our house! His playgroup is enormous; there's no way everyone would fit!

Yep. Same here. Small family gathering but no kid-filled chaos until they actually asked for it.

Vishenka...TENS of thousands of dollars?!?! I can't even fathom being okay with that.

No parties in our house until they have preschool friends and/or ask for a party! Even then we *try* to stick to one friend per year of age (I think 7 or 8 showed up for his fifth?)...our first and second birthday photos are boring, and third birthday photos nonexistent I fear, but our kids don't seem to mind.

We have immediate, a few extended on my side, and two of my friends. We are only doing cake and some fruit/veggies at our house. It's just feels busy, that's all. I'm a weenie.

Im one of those weirdos who loves entertaining, so I've been pinning ideas for N's first since she was born. I am the daughter of a woman who set up a mini carnival in the backyard for a siblings birthday so the insanity comes from somewhere.

It will be perfect A...the talk of the under 1 set. Does he get the bling tomorrow?

Yeah if you love entertaining, the party is more for you than for the little one. The family I nanny for got a cake, invited friends and family and rented out the community room of their apt complex. They brought in sandwiches from Corner bakery and set up a mat with toys on the floor for all the little kids. It was simple and cute. We all came, ate, hung out, watched B eat his first bite of cake and went home. If I have enough friends with kids around my kids age, I think this might be nice to do... Its more of a chance to see your friends than anything else because I know B had no clue what was going on except he got to see all the people he likes to see at one time which was a bit overload for him.
