Baby Shoes

So, now that K2 is walking, he needs shoes. K1 always wore pedipeds or stride rite and I could easily get his shoes on line/on sale without any fit issues. I don't like to let my kids use hand-me-down shoes because I think their feet need to break in the shoes and everyone steps differently. Seems that K2 has wide/extra-wide feet. I cannot even get his feet into pediped or stride rite shoes. I took him to a shop today and the only brand I could fit his feet into at all was See Kai Run. However, he's measuring exactly at a size 4 now and SKR does not make half sizes; I don't think I should go up a full size when he's still learning to walk. Also, I'm not crazy about leather shoes for toddlers because they scuff so badly and don't tolerate wet weather well. (And you all know how little boys have to go out of their way to stomp in puddles.) Any recommendations regarding sizing, other brands, affordable places to buy these? mommies?

Keens are great shoes: good support, long lasting.
I think they carry wide sizes.
The Venice H2s or the Newport H2s are very popular.

M & K both had really fat feet -- think Shrek's feet. They wore the extra-wide width at Stride Rite. Pricy but worth it.

We loved SKR and so that is what most of dd's shoes are, however, we also have a pair of Keens that are nice for summer. Very durable & dry out quickly after puddle-stomping (yes, this has been tested). Keens do run a bit wide, so dd wears them with socks. She did get a blister in them, but I think I found the tiny flaw in the rubber that was irritating her... shaved it away with a finger nail file and she is wearing them again. Good luck!

See Kai Runs. I don't mind the leather scruffs, because they're adorable and dd seems to find them comfortable.

She also wears Keens (butt ugly in adult sizes, but for whatever reason, totally cute in the baby/toddler sizes). And Bogs for winter.

My kids all have wide feet. We do Keens (their shoes are very wide without buying wide width), and Stride Rite. SKR just wasn't on my radar when my kids were younger. We had a lot of barefoot and sock time.

B, my morning kids (almost 2) had seriously wide feet. His mom took him to a special shoe store because non of the regular shoes including stride rite sandals were fitting his feet. The man told her because of his feet he should be wearing laced shoes (his turn out a bit) and now he is wearing New Balance walking shoes and she ordered Teva Sandals. I can find out the specifics of them if you would like.

We've got fat feet over here. My kids are wide, but also fat from top to bottom. I buy SKR, keens, crocs (I know), and check out morgan and milo...I know they can all be pricey, but a good pair of shoes that they wear every day? Worth $30.

I adore SKR and Keens DDs SKR leather sandals went in the water (submerged) all summer long and they stayed in pretty good shape until she outgrew them.

We also have kiddos with wide feet (affectionately known as "Flinstone feet") and we always found Stride Rite XW to be perfect. Used to have to special order them for our oldest.

Yes, it's the wide from top to bottom problem that Gwen described. He's been fine with Robeez crib shoes but I cannot crowbar his feet into hard-soled shoes. I'll look for the Stride Rite wide shoes. Does Keen make any sneakers? I prefer socks and sneakers for outdoor play.

As much of a pain as it was, I took the dude to Stride Rite and had them fit him. He always needed the wide sizes. I always paid full price figuring that it would all even out in the end.

We always went with a shoe like this: http://www.zappos.com/stride-rite-sr...b&zfcTest=fw:1 from Stride Rite. Notice that this style comes in XXW. It looks great with everything (LOVE babies in white walkers) and it bronzes beautifully if you have their first shoes bronzed.

We have keen sneakers. Found them online. Just saw a few at rei the other day too. They are great sneakers!

Most of DD's shoes are extra wide from Stride Rite and in fabric (which stretches even further). She loves these the most. In the summer, it's easier because many toddler summer sandals can also be adjusted for width at the top.
