  • LONG overdue update on Baby JC76

Hi guys! I'm soooooo sorry I've been MIA and never updated everyone after the delivery. Everything is great, I've just been consumed with learning how to juggle the needs of a breastfeeding newborn with a 2 1/2 year old, while recovering from a c-section. Every single time I've sat down to post I've been interrupted and had to get offline again.

So everything went as smoothly as it could with the delivery. We delivered at the same hospital where we had my older daughter with a scheduled c-section. I was amazed that I made it to the scheduled date because I was having crazy false labor for about 4 days leading up to it. We were extra relieved that we made it to the date because DH had scheduled himself to work right up until two nights before the delivery and there would have been mad scramble to find coverage for him if I'd gone early. So at least that was one less thing to worry about.

We were lucky enough to get a private room in the Maternity unit, which isn't guaranteed at our center city hospital. That meant it was easy to keep the baby in with us and DH was able to stay overnight with us. It was really nice. He practically missed out on everything with our first daughter, so this was just a totally different experience for both of us. And he was awesome. Everything basically went so well with the baby and the c-section that we talked them into discharging me at 48 hours. Even DD#1 reacted better than expected. I thought she'd be curious about the baby but also acting out from jealousy, but so far she has only been completely infatuated and enamoured with DD#2. It's all I can do to keep her away from her, she just wants to hold her and help all the time. Could not possibly be happier to see that.

DD#2 has a pretty easy going nature so far, like her sister. But she is a CHAMPION breastfeeder, which is awesome, cause I had tons of problems with that with DD#1. It's just a totally different experience breastfeeding this time around. It also means though that my day goes haywire nursing on demand. The juggling act is ridiculous. DH was able to arrange for two weeks off after the delivery and goes back to work next week. I'm still trying to figure out how the heck I'm going to make it work when it's just me at home with both of them most of the time. But, all in all, couldn't be happier with how things are going. Love my little family and amazed at how much of a difference it makes having DH around more this time. Still feeling pretty blissed out a week and a half after the delivery. Thanks again for all of the good wishes prior to the delivery.

Congratulations!! So happy to hear that everything went so well. For me, going from one kid to two was really hard. They always needed something at the same time, and it was so hard to know who to tend to first. You'll get it figured out soon!

I'm so thrilled to hear everything went well, I was worried about you. (Next time you are not allowed to announce or tell us you are going into labor without a real contact). I am so happy that you have a champion nurser on your hands, that is fantastic! And that your DD1 is so helpful. It sounds like you are in good shape! I hope you heal quickly and are able to get plenty of rest! (huge hugs)

And this gives me hope. I don't want to go through the nursing issues I had with N again, and it really wasn't that bad compared to what it could have been.

Her name is Mia. And again, I am so very sorry for worrying anyone. I actually brought my laptop to the hospital with the full intention of updating everyone, but it just turned into a whirlwind stay... which turned into a whirlwind week and a half at home. I swear that every single day I was thinking to myself, oh my god they must be thinking that something awful happened by now. I would say that next time I'll make sure I have a contact person, but I'm pretty sure this will be our last. Of course, famous last words...
